Site With Higher PR - Possible To Beat?

I'm trying to compete for a keyword but I'm not sure if it's worth pursuing.

For the keyword I have exact match in the domain name. I think my site's on page SEO is good. I've just started working on off page SEO ( back links ).

Here's how page one of Google looks competition wise for the keyword.

POSITION

1# - PR 6 - Back links 7,120
2# - PR 4 - Back links 55
3# - PR 3 - Back links 0
4# - PR 2 - Back links 0
5# - PR 3 - Back links 0
6# - PR 6 Wikipedia
7# - PR 3 - Back links 17
8# - PR 3 - Back links 1
8# - PR 3 - Back links 0
9# - PR 3 - Back links 0

All the sites have alot of internal links but none of them have exact mach in the domain.

Dose this look like I could get on the first page?

It may take time depending on what the keyword is, but you want to look at each site and before purchasing a domain name for the keyword. Page rank helps, but the key with Google is always relevancy, every time.

Of course you can! The webpage might have 500 links but only a fraction of those with the anchor text for the keyword you want to rank for.

Looking at your list, I'm not intimidated by any of those - except for number 1. However, that could change, depending on what their links actually look like. Thousands of links doesn't necessarily mean it's impossible to beat someone, it just means that you need to really study their links. Can you go get links from some of the same places? If so, that'll give you a big boost.

A good PR doesn't guarantee you a good ranking - just like you're not automatically counted out because of a low one. I've seen sites with a PR 0 that are in the top spot. PR is just one factor that's counted. If your on-page SEO is done properly, and your off-page SEO is focused on quality one-way links, it doesn't look like you'll have much trouble getting to page 1. (and, of course, I'm making all of these statements with no clue what the keyword is!)

Thanks alot for all the replys.

When I did my keyword research I thought I mite be able to get on the first page but lately I've been thinking it's going to be hard. - I'm quite new to IM & seo

I was starting to get this fear that I was going to be spending a load of time on this site & building back links for nothing but I think I'll just give it a shot.

The keyword is searched for 60,400 times per month - exact match & local so I really think its worth the work if I can get on page one.
