Does .info have a chance to rank at the top of the search engines?

Does anyone know if .info can get onto the first page for a semi-competitive keyword?

I know that .org and .com is easily even with competitive, but i want to be able to rank a .info

Does anybody know about .info rankings and how it works?

Any feedback would help.

There is no official rule that says info's rank worse than com's and org's. I myself have 3 info's that rank top 5 for their chosen keywords. It's just a popular fallacy.

It all has to do with quality and quantity of the competition as well as the quality of your page and the backlinks (not to mention about a million other things)

So, without hesitation, a ".info" domain can get top ranking.

The question I have, when thinking about it for myself, is am I concerned if the potential customer thinks MyDomain.com instead of MyDomain.net?

If I am looking at short term search results or backlink building, then it doesn't really matter. If this is a destination site (a money site) that I want folks to come back to, then this is probably more of a concern.

The type of domain (.org, .com,...) do not affect SEO at all. It can however affect the number of clicks you get. Some people can perceive .com, .net, or .org more trustful that for example .ws

        Hey sweetspot,
There is no official hierarchy in domain extensions. But users in general perceive .com to be valuable as that extension comes to mind straightaway for most when it comes to domain names.

The problem with .info domains is that they have been used extensively by spammers to spam the search engines. Because of the greed of a selfish few, the search engines may treat .info with caution.

Ensure that your .info is not an expired domain, does not have a "history" and most importantly, like what others have said in this thread, make it your own with the site dripping of quality in every sense.

    Yes.

Do not get confused by all the talk of domain name differences.

99% of what makes the difference in your website's success is the promotion you do NOT what domain your site is on.

It's so small that for most people it's not worth considering.

I have all types of domain extension on page one and with hundreds of websites I still don't care about such things.

WOW>>>Thanks so much warriors. I love the feedback..My plan is to register fresh competitive domain and send quality links, articles, videos, forum posts, press release, social media profiles, web 2.0,

And then I will start with the massive back linking, it gets about 1,600 per day of searches..And it is only growing and it is the last one that is one their and everyone else is parking their domain names.

So I will keep you updated, if anyone has any other feedback, it would be a great.

    Thanks again warriors!

I have read 2 definitive guides regarding SEO that states that info works. Oneof the guides was Google and I quote
    Google Predator creator

". . . Now a word on the domain name extension. Lots of folks will tell to never use the .info extension for various reasons, one of which being you’ll get banned or sandboxed by Google... bla, bla, bla.

Truth is 99% of them have no clue what they’re talking about. They’ve just read it somewhere and are passing it along like an “absolute truth”.
Well I decided to test these theories on my one.
So I bought several .info domain names and start promoting my offers the usual way.
And guess what. I’ve had the exact same results as when using a .com domain."

The biggest advantage of having a .com domain name is that it is the most common, so if someone goes and just types the domain in to go to your site they will probably be most familiar with .com rather that a .net or .info domain. Once you start to build your backlinks and promote your site there will be very little difference in your SERP due to a .info doman.

In my experience, it takes slightly longer for a .info domain to rank well, but they definitely can rank as well as any other extension.
