A Helpful Email Marketing Tip...

INTERNET MARKETING

I'll get straight to the point, Google has recently released an added feature for Gmail called "Priority Inbox".

It basically allows the user to determine which emails get a special little "mark", and also a dedicated inbox, for the messages they select.

What this means to you, is you might want to send out an email (autoresponder Global Broadcast or otherwise) to your list to ask those users on your list to mark your emails as "important" by selecting one of your messages, and clicking a special icon in their Gmail...so your messages appear in their priority inbox with fewer other messages than the regular emails in the "regular" inbox.

For those of you with larger lists, this will probably be most beneficial...but every advantage counts right?

Hey thanks for that...
I get tons of emails/day and I barely open them!
To your precious advice I would add that it is very important to establish trust with your subscribers from day one.

Short and clear messages might help as well...
Remember, that most people read those emails during the day at work and their time is very limited...

Thanks for the tip, Joseph. Nothing beats giving great and useful content in your emails that will benefit the recipients, though. Only then will they be inclined to mark your emails as "important".
Getting them opened in the first place is the other challenge. The subject line and the first few words of the email are crucial. If using Gmail, you can see the first few words along with the subject line. So make it stand out - a short and concise subject line that is intriguing, interesting, controversial or unexpected.

I don't think it's as big an issue as what you think. The default view when someone goes into their emails is still their standard inbox which means the priority inbox feature doesn't come into play.

Until they change their Settings, and choose the Priority Inbox as the default view.

This certainly wasn't one of those tips that will change the online business world for people...but in an age where attention to the marketing message (or content message) is getting more scarce, even when you've built a solid relationship with your list...an easy action like sending out an email to your list and getting a bit more attention is just simple leverage.

Even Wayne's comment about the default view has value.

What would happen if you add a bit to the standard instructions for confirming, white listing, adding to contact list, etc., and ask your subscribers using gmail to mark your messages as important and set their gmail page to the default view?

You might get your message seen before anyone else. If you participate in giveaways, launches, etc., this could be a big advantage...
