My blog may be famous

So, should I assume that my blog is doing well when I get hundreds of these robot spam comments to aprrove every day?

I love some of these comments. "this really helped me on my college project". Really?

I take it you don't like me posting on your site about how well it has helped me out in college. FINE!

Yeah, you must be popular if all of the college kids are digging your site.

why don't you check the summary of your traffic? i get the same comments, i think it's a great sign since your site starts getting interest and exposure. but these spam comments are so funny, they are pretty much the same...haha

  • I get loads of them as well.

It means that your blog is well indexed for profitable keywords that the automated robots feel are worthy of posting on. That's a good thing!

So long as you've got decent spam protection (and that's one thing Wordpress excels with), your blog is set up for a real future. The next thing is try and get some legitimate comments up there.

I believe it is Askimet. But you simply go into your dashboard and then go to SETTINGS then DISCUSSION. There you can select for a moderator to approve. this will stop them from being posted but you still get the emails.

the problem with the plugins is these nice folks who create these systems of spamming the blogs are always working to get around it. But if you make them to you have to moderate them first, they don't ever get through.

sounds like it would be very irratating to have to delete all that spam comments

It is. But it's the price of my fame I suppose.

It is worth sifting through for the good comments. Getting folks to comment on the blog really helps and then you get to sort through even more spam emails.

I know there are good plugins to deal with this. If anyone knows of any of the Wordpress spam comment filtering pluggins and has had good success, please let us know.

I've been too lazy about doing it. I am so used to getting them. I have a lot of different blogs.

I will test some out and report back if I find a good one. I would hate to have real comments filtered out, though.

Akismet is the one I use. I do get some comments marked, though, that I do not consider SPAM, so once every week or so I quickly scan those marked as SPAM and deal with them accordingly.

I have such a good Wordpress theme - at least that's what everyone keeps telling me in their comments. They all want my wordpress theme and are all going to recommend it to their friends

My spammer friends want to show me how to increase my traffic
BTW, I have noticed that if you keep marking them as spam, instead of deleting them, after some time they stop coming. Possibly because wordpress bans the IP from commenting

I always ban the IP addresses. Helps tremendously.

I have a blog I've literally never touched since installing WP, and it's been getting a spam comment on the "Hello World" post every 43 minutes for about four months now.

Seriously. That's not an average. I get a spam comment on it every 43 minutes exactly. I get a notification that the comment needs moderation, and 43 minutes later - I get another one!

So I've stopped even paying attention at this point.

Askimet is what we use. It doesn't get them all but it sure cuts down the volume.
