Idea: IM Experiments Sub-Forum on Warrior Forum

Just thought I'd test the waters for what you as the Warrior community think about adding a sub-forum to this site called 'IM Experiments'. This would be a sub-forum for those generous Warriors that give back to the community by sharing carefully measured results while they conduct experiments with IM.

I have seen and learned so much useful info from the likes of Terry Kyle's 60 Links Backlink Experiment, Joseph Archibald's 40 Day Challenge - Top 5 in Google in 40 days to name just a couple. I have seen countless more.

Just to go off on a rant a little bit, I am sick and tired of the IM world having the reputation of snake oil salesman. I'm not saying everybody is, and as an IM guy myself this is why I don't like hearing this name tag. I think part of it is you see so many outlandish promises not to mention this whole get rich quick scheme kinda thing (make $1000 tomorrow, etc).

All I know is if over due course and by constantly applying myself a little bit each day, be it a few years I can make something passively that resembles a full time income and it keeps paying money into my pocket every month I will be extremely satisfied as an initial goal.

On this I am sure I am saying something a lot of people do not want to hear. They want it next week, next month or within 6 months. But to bring in consistently lets say US$5000 a month. That is US$60,000 a year, and if you really know what you are doing because you have built up so much experience then you will know how to sustain such numbers. That to me is worth quite a bit of time and effort. I think about my friends who have invested in real estate and how high the risks they have taken financially for it are, most would make nothing close to $60,000 a year. And lets not forget IM income is liquid cash money.

So end rant, and back to this sub-forum idea..

I feel experiments highlight how even for guys who know what they are doing, nothing is (generally) an overnight experience. And nothing always goes to plan. But through hard work and persistence, results in the long term will follow.

I really feel experimentation is the only way forward with IM for me, it has definitely helped me progress and by locking on to what others have done already have prevented me from making the same mistakes. I truly find these kinds of threads invaluable.

It is just an idea, and who knows maybe this is an experiment in itself that won't work out But I know for any serious IM'er this is a way of learning by some serious data.

I am not directly connected to the powers that be of this site, nor do I really have any other influence. But I figured if this got enough attention maybe somebody with influence would be so kind to pass the suggestion to the top!

Thanks.

I don't know anything about starting a sub-forum since I'm not on this forum enough to know what people would want, but maybe if you called it Case Studies instead of experiments.

I agree with you completely, though, that experimentation or testing is the absolute best way to learn.

I started out reading a lot, and that's good for getting an idea of what the fundamentals are, but there is a whole heap of BS out there that people just pick up and regurgitate without even testing to see what's real and what's not.

Take Matt Cutts for example; so many people like to point to what he says as gospel, and then you see SERPs that the sites ranking are doing lots of things the opposite of what is suggested. It tells you something.
Maybe not a long-term business plan to go against what G's lead spamcop decrees, but you can certainly learn some things by running against the current.

Back on topic, though, I much prefer reading case studies with actual data and results (often counter to what the tester expected), than to read a self-proclaimed expert blog or post in a forum an opinion stated as fact.

So, perhaps threads of this sort should use a certain type of tag in the title? Say something like [STUDY] or [TEST] to make it easier to find them in a search.

Good idea! However, I think we have enough forums and sub-forums here already.

Let us not create more troubles for the moderators.

What I like about experiments/case studies is we don't see hype. Maybe it is my software engineer side but I really dislike hype... I like to see real results.

I know things arent always going to work, but the truth is always in the numbers and there is always something to learn.
