Sometimes I dream of software with a very small learning curve that will create custom themes for WordPress blogs -- something that creates pages that don't scream "free theme."
It would easily create or change out and size the header graphics and also add other custom graphic touches.
Does such a creature exist? If so, what would you recommend?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

If you are serious about your website then it's worth investing in.

Sorry, I don't think you're going to find something that is going to deliver anything beyond what artiseer does and it screams free cheap website.

There are various software available like wordpress, typepad, squarespace with which you can create beautiful blog. Wordpress has always worked well for me. It uses a service called Akismet to filter comment spam and trackback spam and you don’t have to do anything to activate the Akismet service, it just works naturally once your blog is live.

There's only one blogging software worth considering in my view... WordPress. It's awesome especially considering its entensible nature with themes, widgets and plugins.

If you must create your own custom theme, then software called Artisteer will let you do that. It will cost you some money but you can create exactly the style and feel you want. It's up to you to decide whether it's worth the investment for an early stage blog.

Artiseer is good, but aren't they in legal tussles with Wordpress? Or did I imagine that?

There is a huge booming industry in making products that take advantage of wordpress. If you know how to program then you should go for it.

There is nothing wrong with free themes IMO ... and once your site starts getting traffic and making good $$$, then you can give it a facelift with a custom theme if that is what yo ureally want.

I wish I had a truck that did not use gasoline, or the tires did not wear out, or did not have to change the oil,,,,,, something that I could drive forever for free.

I wish my blog looked more like CNN, Foxnews, BBC, abcnews,,,,, but I have yet to find a layout that will do the job.

LOVE WordPress in fact, if anything my single gift in life is helping others haha (I do tech support) so I am (hopefully soon!) going to be starting a series of free video tutorials on WordPress end-to-end. Hopefully it'll be a useful fun resource. I'm pretty advanced (not SUPER), but wanted to make something good for others who might want to get started but don't really have a central resource (other than codex) to get going.
(BTW, free themes can be ok to start with, but investing in nice themes helps site look more pro )
