Keyword Rich Domain Question

So I found a keyword rich domain name, well sort of. For example, in google there is over 75k EXACT searches with low competition for lets say something like:

black socks

I was able to find a .net domain name that is of the original, basically flipped words:

socks black

but this one only gets 6500 EXACT searches

Now my question is will google look at my domain the same way as if i had blacksocks dot net? Can I tap into that 75k Exact searches market?

Any experience with this? I've had pretty good success with keyword rich domains but not in these circumstances.

You can have success even for keywords that might not be part of your domain name. Just make sure you build anchor text backlinks using the keyword the right way round (ie. the higher searched version of the phrase) and you can still give yourself a good chance.

I've done this before, I also made sure I included the keyword I wanted to rank for (that wasn't part of the domain) in the website title, description field etc. Of course, how successful you are and how long it takes will also depend on the competition for the phrase.

    Ehhh...

I really like exact match domain names. I'd probably go with a word at the end or beginning of the exact match domain

    blacksockstore
    blacksocksite
    blacksocksnow
    theblacksocks
    goblacksocks
    getblacksocks
    buyblacksocks

    Just me though....

From what I have seen, it seem s like having an exact match keyword domain name give you a bit of a boost in the search engines. But what ranks you is good content and backlinks.

I have personally outranked plenty of exact name domains for bunches of keywords because I have good content and backlinks.

If your keyword phrase really is two words long and it gets that many searches, I would suspect that the number of search results you are getting also contain vaiations and modifiers.

You are more likely to see more people searching for a three word phrase exactly than a two word phrase. Not a set in stone rule or anything, just my personal observation.

But the socks black domain name seem slike a pretty good place to start.

        From my SPKW WSO....

Although all searchers are looking for information, there are really only three types of searches:

        1. Site specific
        2. Information specific
        3. Action specific

The main thing you need to understand about a site specific search is: when a user is conducting a site specific search, there is only one right answer. That answer is the website the searcher is looking for.

This explains the well-know strength of the exact match domain name. As of this writing, Google seems to give strong preference to exact match domain names. For a low competition keyword, having the exact match domain name is often enough to get a good ranking. This is because Google understands the concept of site search and is trying to service that user.

The best strategy to combat search compartmentalization and maximize our potential for reaching the different search types is to take an integrated approach. That's why the exact match domain name is such a powerful tool.

I agree. See what other variations of that keyword is available. .com ideally, if not .net. Then vary your backlink anchor text, ie - black socks... buy black socks etc etc.
