Any autoresponders that will allow a purchased list?

Hello All,

I have a client that wants to target a specific industry with his service. I found a list service for my specific area which contains about 780 emails for our target market.

Does anyone know of an auto responder service that will allow you to upload a purchased list?

THanks
Matt

    Try icontact.com

Technically all names have to give permission before you start sending emails to them but I have a couple of clients that have uploaded lists to icontact without any problems.

Any autoresponder that is going to be worth anything is not going to let you import a purchased list.

Plus, you should not be using a purchase list to begin with.

      Just my opinion.

There are some exceptions to that rule, but they are few and far between.

I've heard this same thing, that you shouldn't use a purchased list, from other people as well but I don't get it. You can buy or rent a mailing list, a telemarketing list, why is it bad to buy an email list?

I know that email has a lower barrier of entry to use so there are more opportunities to buy lists that are junk or spam but if you can verify the quality of the list why would it be bad to buy emails?

I paid to have a self-hosted free/GPL AR script modified so I could easily import and send out emails...be it from paid sources, other lists I have, all CAN SPAM compliant of course...

A good place to start would be with Infinite Responder, I'm sure there's a way to import via mysql...I just had it fixed so I have a panel that allows me to do a mass-import via the admin panel....from any type of column/row formatting as long as it's a csv file.

As others have suggested, with such a small number of emails to send, it could be managed by sending them out yourself.

There are a number of scripts which enable this. Some require set up on your server, such ARP (Auto Response Plus) which is well regarded.

There are also a number of programs which can be set up to run from your own computer and they will also handle bounced emails, unsubscribers, etc.

If you keep the auto distribution down to under 100 per hr, you can easily get them out in less than a day.

Most scripts and desktop programs will allow a list to be imported from a CSV file. Many will have other import options.

I did something like this a while back. I did not have as many e-mail addresses as you but this is how I handled the situation.

              1) Put up a page on my blog with an AWeber optin form.
              2) Used phplist to send out original e-mail with a link to the blog page.
              3) If they were interested, they opted in with the AWeber form.

              Hope this helps.

I called icontact and they said no way. But I guess it is worth trying and see what happens. I guess worse case scenario is they delete the account.

You can go with iContact, and have the first email send them to a squeeze page for another autoresponder company list (say, Aweber...) If iContact cancels your account you'll still have people who opt-ed in voluntarily (as far as Aweber would be concerned) that you can now mail to.

    Shannon,

I don't really care if it is worth anything. I just want something that will allow me to import the list so that I don't have to manually feed the names. Also something that let's them opt out should they not want to be on the list.

I could do direct mail. But this project is for a contractor and we all know how well they are doing right now.

It's $67 for the list of emails or $1,000 for a direct mail campaign.

The other option is that the provider will send out the email for $200 in addition to the cost of the list. Which is why I would much rather find an AR for this project.

I'm not trying to sound like Groucho Marx (not wanting to be a member of any club that would have him as a member), but would you really want to use for this mailing the service of an autoresponder company that allowed people to do this? How many of your emails would really be delivered successfully by such a service? They'd be blocked all over the place, wouldn't they?

If it's only 780 emails altogether, you'd be better sending them out yourself, if you're sure they're not going to cause spam complaints? Just do it over the space of a few hours. Or if that's too time-consuming, pay the $200 and have them sent for you, maybe?

Run your own script on a hosting account. Your list is small
enough it won't be noticed, especially if you throttle to
    400emails/per or less.

It's not spam, actually, to send a solicitation email. It's only
spam when the recipient says it is and reports it. If you send
valuable free content, even unsolicited, your chances of having
    problems are less.

Make your emails about helping your recipients, not getting their
money. It takes discipline to do this, but it can win you the
    business.

    Alexa, good point.
Loren, I think I will need to look at acquiring a script.
