What is the Difference Between an Inbound Link and a Pingback?

I'm trying to figure out the difference between pingbacks, trackbacks, backlinks, and all the other monikers links are going by these days. At the moment, my primary question is: what is the difference between an inbound link to my site, and a pingback? Is it simply that a pingback goes from blog to blog?

Here is the detailed info on pingbacks, trackbacks and the differences between them:

Backlinks are just static inbound links. They are completely different from pingbacks and trackbacks. Backlink can be done to static html sites, pingbacks and trackbacks are blog features.

For example when you link to someone else's blog post, your blog sends a pingback notifying them, and they can send a pingback with a reply to you, etc.

When other bloggers link to my blog posts in their blogs, I get notification via pingbacks.
