Good Tip On Repurposing Ezine Article/Blog Content

Had this emailed to me. Could not believe what it said as it was my understanding you were not able to use your blog content as an article. Just need to fix a few things and ezine says you can.

2 Minute Approval Tips: Repurpose Content Correctly

I was actually quite surprised as it was my belief they wanted 100% original content.

Far from it. Actually they never have.

The only article directory requiring 100% original content (as far as I know) is "Buzzle".

In the introductory course they send out by email to new authors, EZA specifically suggests sumbitting to them as articles any previous blog posts you've published that might be suitable, and even any forum posts that are long enough.

All of my hundreds of articles on EZA (and most of those of my clients, and many of those of countless article marketers) had previously been published on their own sites first and indexed there, prior to EZA submission in identical form (apart from the resource-box!).

EZA even makes a special Wordpress application so that people can post their articles to their blogs and submit them to EZA (for subsequent publication) at the same time.

    This thread will interest you.

Alexa, thanks for the link. The reason I was confused is I was turned down on an article awhile back that was a blog post I had just completed.

Their criteria was that it contain the same signature, which it did.

This opens up new areas for me because I was putting out 100% original to ezine just in case after that denial of article.

Alexa, do you know if most other article directories have the same TOS?
      Signature
I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

Yes, this is true. It's really important to submit to EZA in the same name/pen-name as the one under which it's been previously published elsewhere, otherwise they suspect plagiarism and suspend your account until you explain it to them. Always rectifiable but a huge temporary nuisance!

On this point, as far as I'm aware, all apart from Buzzle (who have the quite extraordinary chutzpah to insist on original, unpublished content and not to offer any payment for it at all - "thanks but no thanks"!).

You have to read each one's TOS and policies/procedures, really (a huge undertaking, of course, which is why most people don't bother!) but on this specific point, there's no real problem, anyway.

Syndicated content, of course, isn't "duplicate content", and there's absolutely no "penalty" for it at all.

I submit to about 7 or 8 directories, myself.

My personal policy/preference is to submit to EZA exactly the same version as is on my own site (after it's been indexed on my own site, of course!), and then very quickly and easily to change the title, keywords and resource-box to produce a "second version" which is the one I then submit to 6 or 7 others. You don't need to wait until EZA actually publishes it to do this: it makes no difference at all. (I normally do, myself, though, just because that's my routine).

Anything beyond that is strictly "backlinks only" - there'll be very little (if any) extra traffic from it. For me, there's no point in submitting to 500 other directories from nearly all of which you'd get only pr-0, context-irrelevant backlinks, which are pretty worthless. And most of those other "directories" won't still exist in a year's time anyway.

To me, mass automated submission isn't worthwhile (though I accept, of course, that it has some limited backlink value and am not trying to talk anyone out of it if they like that sort of thing), and "spinning" is just too ludicrous for words. Many will disagree, of course, but I strongly suspect that 95% of them are people who believe in the myth of " 'duplicate content' 'penalties' ".

The thing with article marketing is to think as far beyond "article directories" as possible. (That said, I do actually do very well from EZA.)

EZA is pretty tolerant with the Wordpress plugin.

That said, if you want views and clicks on EZA in most cases there
are structural differences between a blog post and an effective
EZA article. Put some thought into the repurposing and you'll do well,
but if you just click and publish every blog post, expect a lot of them
    to sink as articles.

If you're just publishing articles to show thought leadership and
don't much care about getting clicks, just upload your blog posts
    as is.

John, Thanks for sharing this. I didn't realize that ezine was so flexible with their articles.

It depends on the length of your blog posts but another thing to keep in mind is that you can split a post into 2 or even 3 part articles for EZA. I quite often split a longer post and title it so that the reader knows there is a part 2 or 3. I reiterate this at the end of the piece and it can really help to build a pre-sell.

Wow...I'm really glad to have found this post - thanks to John who shared the 2 minute repurpose link and to you also Alexa, for your additional insights! Knowing what's what with this is going to be a huge timesaver.

    Best,

    Elise
