I use and recommend Hostgator Reseller accounts.

It's only $24.95 for the starter Aluminium Package
(50 GB disk space and 500 GB bandwidth per month):

    http://www.hostgator.com/resellers.shtml (no affil.)

Their support, reliability and interface are great plus
you get an eNom domain reseller account too.

    Hi Steve

I second Shaun's recommendation, I have a couple of HostGator Aluminum plans and have nothing but good things to say about them.

What do you charge for hosting on these? and how many sites could you reliably host without worrying about your Bandwidth running out.

Just wondering who makes decent money doing this.

You can charge your clients whatever you want. You
just pay Hostgator the $24.95/month for the 50 GB
of disk space and 500 GB of bandwidth.

As for capacity, it really depends upon your target
clients and if they use a lot of video etc.

Offline, I target business owners with very basic sites
and they only use around 100 MB of disk space each
      - max.

I also have the hostgator reseller account and it works well for me.

It will last you a long time unless you are uploading a lot of video files and other large files.

As Shawn told you, I recommend you hostgator, because is one of the most chepeast price in the market. But if you want to know more in detail, just search in google "top 10 reseller acounts" and visit the page #2

This website counts with a list of 10 sites that has the best reseller hostings.

Has anyone ever gone to ebay and searched "reseller hosting"? Some of the accounts are very low priced, much lower than the price for Hostgator quoted above.

Does anyone have experience with these dealers?

I am sure some people will be tempted to respond by criticizing the offers as ridiculously cheap. The next thought will be morality-based: cheap cannot be good. I am not interested in such hypotheses. Does anyone have actual experience with the low-cost ebay reseller hsoting sellers?

There are cheaper options than HostGator's plan, but I wouldn't encourage anyone to buy something as important as hosting from ebay. (Mostly because you don't know if the host will still be around next month!)

There's a few more reseller options listed here: Cheap reseller hosting plans - Web Hosting Diary

I heard hostagator gives each person there own cpanel login and takes care of troubleshooting etc. so seems like a win win and easy way to make a good bit of money.

As the Reseller, Hostgator give you an interface (Web
Host Manager - WHM) where you can basically set-up
as many independet hosting accounts as you want (for
      yourself and/or your clients).

Each and every hosting account you set-up comes with
      it's own cpanel, etc.

This makes it great for client sites or if you intend to sell
      on websites later on.

Regarding support - clients come to you for support rather
than going to Hostgator. You go to Hostgator on their
      behalf.

(However, good news: I can't recall ever having to go to
support on behalf of my clients because they have very
basic sites that I can deal with).

I've used Hostgator support for my own sites and they've
been excellent most of the time.

        What he said...

At 100mb per site, you can host hundreds of sites on the one account. If you ever do outgrow that one, the next one is only an extra ten bucks or so, as I recall. Support, both phone and live chat, has been superb.

Not mentioned was the ability to get your own nameserver. If you go for the nameserver, be sure to get a matching security cert, or you'll get a warning that the certs don't match...

Hostgator is good. If you will be hosting newbie IM accounts you may to keep your files on a separate server. The virus and Trojan problem with those accounts can be a problem.

The Warrior Forum is the best IM forum on the Internet, IMHO and I hope that I'm not out of order here, but for such specific questions, you need to visit forums dedicated to your specific question.

I would suggest a search engine search of 'web hosting forums'. These should give you posts of actual experiences with different web hosts and accounts. Web Hosting Talk is one that I find useful (no aff. link):-

Web Hosting Talk - The largest, most influential web hosting community on the Internet

      Good luck with your search.

      Regards,
      Jeff.
