protected download area for selling digital products?

ok so i have been itching my head on how to do this.

When someone buys my product (from clickbank) i want them to sign up to my mailing list so they instantly get a email with a link to my download page.

this is where i get confused.....

i want to have a protected download page, where people can download my product. I want this page to be completely secure. or if there is a way to get expiring links to be sent via email?

i would like to hear peoples opinions on the best way to do this?

Now i was thinking along the lines of using amazon s3 along with a program like s3 flowshield to randomly change the url every time the page is refreshed. but how do i hide the download page and the page my autoresponder is on?

i know there must be a simpler way to do this?

i am planning on getting Dap membership plugin for my next product but for this one i want a cheaper solution, Any ideas better than what i can come up with?

if anyone could help i would really appreciate it!

Thanks
Alexio

You could try e-junkie.com. You can upload your product to their site and use it as a secure way to download your product.

You can also incorporate your email sign up so that when a person purchases the product they automatically get sent an email to get them to sign up to your list.

e-junkie can be used in conjunction with Clickbank or can be used on it's own without Clickbank.

DLGuard is also another way. It's a great piece of software and you can do pretty much the same thing as ejunkie.

Both will cost you - e-junkie is $5 a month and DLGuard is a once off price of $167.

I'm pretty sure RAP changes download page links, making them expire so that they are not available to the public.

Did you actually check the price on e-junkie? Or read Caliban's post about getting 3 months free?

Just how cheap does it have to be for you? Isn't this what is known as a "business expense"?

I can vouch for DLGuard. I use it for all my companies products and it works very well. I like it because I can enter my autoresponder API in and have it auto-subscribe buyers to my list.

Also, if you have any issues, Sam (the creator) is always personally around to help.

NOTE: Install it on one main website and use that site to hold all your products. You get two product licenses with it and need to buy extra.

      Cheers,
      Matt

If you're using Wordpress there's a very impressive plugin called Digital Delivery Demon (or something like that) and it's just a few dollars.
It provides expiring download links, cloaked links and much more.
You can find it in the WF.

    Hi Alexio,

I'm the owner of DLGuard - if you have any questions, I'm more than happy to help!

As Matt said, I do hang out here, so you can either pop me a question here, or if it's urgent, just via the Contact section of the DLGuard website.

I'm happy to help where I can!

By the way, which Autoresponder are you using? DLGuard integrates with a lot of them, allowing you to automatically add your customers to your mailing list without requireing them to fill out any forms.

DLGuard is designed to keep the sales and download process as quick and smooth as possible.

    cheers

The only reason i was put off by ejunkie is because i have many videos in the product so the file size is quite large.

Another vote from me for E-Junkie, though nothing against DLguard as it obviously comes highly recommended - I just haven't used it myself.

Just a note that with E-Junkie and video I've previously used it to deliver the smaller components then hosted the videos elsewhere and given download links on the thankyou page.

    Another option for you.

You can use SiteManPro to do exactly that (and it's free)

It works with clickbank, add your customers to your autoresponder and provide a protected for your customers to download your product.

Plus, we're releasing a brand new module next week that will protect your files hosted on Amazon S3, the same way s3flowshield or cdnvault does. This module will allow you to create expiring links for the files (pdfs, audios, videos) hosted on Amazon S3.

DISCLAIMER: I'm the developer of SMP and I really think it will help you in the situation.

    (thanks kevin for recommending)

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. I have purchased and used DLGuard. I don't know how many people on here have ACTUALLY USED the product, or how many are just saying they know about DLGuard, but in my experience it is very "buggy", install is pretty easy if you are a tech person. Administration, and changing the default options is a nightmare. Once you have read enough forums to figure out how to use the product, you find that Customer Service is non existent. I do not appreciate using a product that requires me to read miles and miles of forums, comments, and explanations given by everyone (but) the person responsible for writing the software.
Customer Service is having a phone number or some level of (live) tech support. Self Serve forum reading is not Customer Service. I posted in a forum to get help with an email problem I was having. Basically I was told "it should be working". Although I paid my money, and spent the better part of two weeks trying to integrate DLGuard to my needs, I quit!
I found a company called Digital Content Center that fit my needs perfectly. I encountered some problems with them too, but unlike DLGuard - I actually got to speak with someone immediately and problems solved IMMEDIATELY!
If you are looking for a way to Simply, and Effectively sell your digital content without headeaches, forums, or sarcasm you would be smart to at least look at digitalcontentcenter.com . No I do not work for them, nor do I have a dog in this fight, but reading the responses above referring a product to the average user without mentioning a thing about how hard it is to make DLGuard actually do what it is suppose to do is disturbing. The fact that the owner of DLGuard is a member of this site should have no baring on if his product is fit to recommend to the average user. PS- If you are a website designer, or a coder you will find DLGuard quite user friendly. I would also like to add that DLGuard looks like it would be a very nice piece of software to install to your website if it were more configurable, the changed options would stay changed and the software performed consistantly. I would rather pay a one time charge than a monthly premium as I am now, but what works, works!!

          *cough*

Sam is one of the most responsive product authors I've ever seen.

But I thought I'd humour you, so I went to dlguard.com where I immediately found a link to "Contact Us." There, I saw a "New Ticket" option. There was also a link to the "DLGuard Forum."

I clicked into the forum, where I picked the first forum, "General Discussion." I opened the first thread with replies. The second post in the thread - immediately under the original post - was from Sam Stephens, the DLGuard developer.

Seriously? I just click the first couple links that have any chance at all of having a response from Sam in them, and it's literally in the first possible place it could be?

But you can't find any posts from him.

          I call Bravo Sierra.

This goes completely against my experience. When I bought DLG I knew almost nothing. I had a small configuration issue because of how ion cube was handled at Bluehost. Sam fixed it within a day. Sam has helped me understand every use question I've asked him. And I've had lots of questions over the years.

It is awesome for what I need so far. Great support. Great customizability.

DLGuard and I use it extensively. It's not in the least buggy and the support is terrific. Can't make a better purchase for all of your product downloads. Buy it once and use it for as many products as you want to. Ban customers that are serial refunders, use it in shopping cart mode for several products ... the features are endless.

Don't know what the above poster is smokin' but his description of DLGuard and the support is highly inaccurate.

There's also ejunkie at $5 per month.

    Hi stepxstep,

I'm sorry to hear about the problems you were having. Did you open up a support ticket? If so, if you can give me your name I can check into the issues for you.

The DLG forum is simply a backup - primary support is via the helpdesk system, which I check throughout the day.

It sounds like you may have had some hosting server configuration issues - most servers all act the same, but some servers have different kinds of configurations which sometimes require extra steps.

In these cases I offer free installation for anyone who needs it.

While a lot of web professionals do use DLGuard, a huge section of my clients are absolute beginners. Some are totally new, and I've explained to them how domain names work, what hosting accounts are, and how everything fits together.

DLGuard is designed for all skill levels, but as mentioned, if you do get stuck, I'm here to help.

    cheers

Protecting your files from unauthorized download by the purchaser or someone he shares the download link with is pretty easy to accomplish with any of the products already mentioned.

Perhaps you are losing files through other "leaks". I know many marketers do. That's why I created a WSO to define the most common leaks exploited by thieves and how to fix them. Obviously, I'm biased, but I think it could help you.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, Suzanne, Mike, and CD - it's sometimes quite hard to reply to those kinds of posts without coming across as argumentative or overly defensive.

You're right, Big Mike - almost 6 years to the month since I first launched DLGuard. It's interesting looking back at how things start. Back when I originally wrote the script for myself so I could pump out secure sites for clients without rewriting the same code over and over again. I'm pretty sure you were one of the first people to ask if they could buy a copy

It's come a LONG way since those days!

Anyway, before I get too nostalgic, just wanted to say thanks!

When alternative views are presented in forums (even if it's from a user with one post only who is promoting a different service), the most credible replies are from people who actually use the software.

So thanks guys, I appreciate you sharing your own views!
