And I have a blog at the /blog/ already.. I just can't figure out how to make a cool homepage..

My personal opinion would be squeeze page.

Get them on your list and then you can offer them your coaching program
or anything else you may decide to sell over time. I know it is a bit more
work as you need to build up a relationship with your subscribers but I like
to think in the long term, building up a business.

A salespage is a one hit - either they buy then or they don't. How do you
follow up if they leave your page without buying?

It all depends on what you are wanting to do. If you want to build a following based on your blog posts then build a nice blog, if you want to sell something build a squeeze page with an optin and a sales pages. If you do use a sales page make sure you have an exit offer so when they leave without buying you can offer them a sweet deal or at least give them something free so they will join your list and then you can sell them later.

    Hey Caleb,
I have a different take. The home page of a site is the gateway to other parts of the site.
If you can make it interesting and informative with some good content and highlight the benefits of your coaching program with a link, a description of your blog with a link etc, it tells users who land there what your site is about and what you can offer.

Not everyone who is landing on your home page will be inclined to sign up or looking for a coaching program. Just devote your home page to the different areas/services you offer without giving undue prominence to just one and let the users pick their choice as per their mindset.

If you visit seoresearchlabs.com you can see this fragmentation of services clearly in action. Make your home page an interesting gateway and let the users do the picking.

I don't know...I send everybody to my blog. It has all my articles and
everything I want people to see.

That's just my personal preference though.

I'm not sure there is a right or wrong, best or worst when it comes to this
        stuff.

Kind of depends on what your end goal is.
