Thinking Outside the Box and Goats on the Roof

Just read this article and after LOL for a few minutes, I thought about what a brilliant marketing ploy this was. Definitely outside of the box thinking.

It's Not Santa's Reindeer You Hear on the Roof, It's Lars Johnson's Goats - WSJ.com

Inspires me to come up with some creative thinking for my own marketing efforts ...

Anyone else have some crazy ideas that worked for you?

Ha Ha, it's out of the box - but not totally unique.. Here's somewhere we go all the time: Coombs Country Market - also known as 'Goats on the Roof' hahah

It's been here forever. If you're thinking of visiting Vancouver Island make sure to stop in. They have great food and shopping!

I've been to the place they sued here in Georgia and wasn't impressed. A gimmick won't help you if you suck otherwise.

Do you happen to know if the original Goat on the Roof guy won that case? I couldn't find the outcome. How on earth does someone trademark Goats on a Roof ... as in real goats on a real roof rather than just the Words Goats on a Roof?

I thought I saw a snippet in the article saying it was settled by the guy paying a licensing fee to use the gimmick in four different states.

I wonder if any of them have goat on the menu?

Dennis, if you had to pay for those jokes, you'd run up quite a billy... I kid you not.

Ewe are correct, but I'm too sheep to pay much. And with that, I'm going to take it on the lamb...

The goat is a member of the Bovidae family and is closely related to the sheep -- both are in the goat-antelope subfamily Caprinae. Rule number one of pun making is the right to poetic license.

Remember the gimmicks work because they attract a specific group of people by their very excentricity, but if it Rams it home for one group it is likely to leave someone else ruminating on the banalness of it all.

Reminds me of the way some viral videos can spread, or even some of the simple joke emails that get passed from pillar to post.

Still haven't thought of the way of whistlinging the collie to keep the little criters within the pen.

    Suzanne,

Back in the day when flash websites were the coolest I teamed up with coders who knew ActionScript to put up sites that went viral easily. Yes, sites did go viral even before FaceBook, Twitter and even YouTube!

I am pretty sure that if you got your AS3 down, or outsource a great coder, you could probably still do the same.

    Kind Regards,
