Do You Have Those Lawn Signs Advertising Dating "Singles" Sites In Your City? Find Out Who Does It!

I see these things all over the place. It looks like one company is responsible for the majority if not all of those "singles" signs you see on the side of the street.

Check this out: "Single?" Lawn Signs Conquer the American Landscape The Metric System

The company that is responsible has signs in virtually every state, how do you think they get them there? I'm guessing they post Craigslist job listings for people to go out and place them.

I also agree that they are illegally posted (probably why their domains are registered in different countries). In my city I don't even think I could get a permit to post these types of signs. I am just fascinated by how vast their reach is and how they manage to pull it off. They're in every state!

How do they get these signs out there to all parts of the country?

Funny. I do something similar in my city but target CPA ads with it and it has been pretty successful up to this point. My last campaign was just canceled b/c it was targeting people who were taking a bite at the gas pumps (I marketed it as a free $50 gas card).

I outsourced the work but didn't use craiglist to do it.

I'm sure the people that post them don't try to get permits and often don't know or care what the law is, especially if someone else is paying them to post the signs. They aren't the ones who would get in trouble if the authorities decide to do something about it, unless they get caught in the act.

The reason I mentioned that was that if you are having people post these signs for your business, you could be liable if the gov't decides to do something about it.

The fines in most cases, are too low for it to really matter to people who do this. Permits are simply not allowed for this type of marketing in most cities because they clutter up the intersections.

Then again, if you are going to go after these guys, you will also have to go after the garage sale people as well.

Actually, back in 1995 when I ran a singles BBS (yup before the web) Yard signs and business cards were the standard way to market singles services.

We would "pay members" to post signs, post fliers on windshields or place little stacks of card in every place they thought possible.

We didn't actually pay them a penny, we gave them access to the new members before they went into our normal system.

You would be first in line to see the new members that signed up in not only your area but all areas.

More trivia, women responded to signs that were more colorful (even if the lettering was still black) Men flocked in droves to black block letters on golden rod background.

We didn't pay to print or distribute the fliers signs etc, we sent a nice report with templates that they could use in Works, Word perfect, or Word.

Very nice. This sort of viral marketing can still be incorporated in today's world (legally and with permits of course).

You bring back great memories when you mentioned the good ol' BBS.

I live in NJ and see those signs everywhere. I always assumed it was some kind of small scale affiliate marketing. I had no idea it was so large and well-organized! Thanks for sharing that article...great find!

Man, you guys focus on the wrong things...

The power behind the marketing is not in the method but in the message.

    [Insert name of LOCAL town]dating.com

    Get it?

The signs are a loss leader for the real power of branding the site I.e Raised awareness (regardless of the municipal legalities).

There are other ways to market such a site legally.

LOCAL is where it's at especially for folks who are lookin' to hook up.

    Hey, guess what?

    WARRIORDATING.COM is available!

Spot on man...I mentioned this in my last report. There is money in the offline world...the trick is how you market it to your community.
