Affiliate Link Cloaking

Anyone knows how to cloak affiliate links?

Let's say instead of having the visitor to see this link:
Example Web Page
the visitor sees the actual sales page link Example Web Page instead.

Any experts here to help?

Sorry but that was not what I am looking for. I do not want to create sub-folders like "recommends" or "likes" or whatsoever.

      Any other helpers?

Chances are that is a script, not a folder... It simply creates a path for your server to identify the redirect url, without interfering with or breaking the other files on your server...

Bit.ly is a free service that does the same... But if Bit.ly were to ever go under, you would pay a high price, with tons of dead links... Personally, I do use bit.ly, so you might call me a gambler...

Also, if you are creating Clickbank links, CB has a URL Cloaker available to you immediately when you request the link information from them...

If you are using WP, just use: WordPress › Pretty Link WordPress Plugins

You can make your links say whatever you want them to say.

Ya, it's a script but it shows a lengthy URL. I would prefer to show the vendor sales page URL only. Any experts who can really help???

That is why I don't like to use other websites' services as we are at their mercy.

"Also, if you are creating Clickbank links, CB has a URL Cloaker available to you immediately when you request the link information from them... "

The CB URL Cloaker simply produces an encrypted affiliate link which still very much resembles an affiliate link. This is not what I want.

The only way to do what you're saying you want to do is to use javascript, which only changes what the visitor sees in the status bar. The actual link will still be in your source code somewhere.

One way of doing it is redirect your link. You can use a subdomain or a regular domain and redirect it to the affiliate salespage. They'll see your subdomain when they hover over it but they'll be getting redirected to the affiliate salespage and they won't even know it.

      Hi bro, that sounds good...

Can explain step-by-step how to do this using subdomain?

Or are you able to find any online resources that can help me with this?

There is a guy on this forum called "Member Wing" who has a free version of an affiliate link redirection that looks for "keywords" and creates a cloaked link for those keywords. It allows you to write an article on your blog system, use a keyword, and that keyword will automatically become a cloaked link showing the URL you want.

It is called AFLinker plugin for wordpress. It is awesome and comes in a free and pro version. The free version puts in a couple of hidden links back to his sites, the pro version does not.

Send him a pm and he will be glad to help - It's a great system.

Affiliate Link Cloaker - Ninja Link Cloaker (not an affiliate link)

this will cost you some money / i also think there are free versions available ? you can also buy a domain name and use the masked redirect method in that / this also makes it easy to swap out a product if one is a dud.

why would anyone need a link cloaker? How is it possible to 'steal' commissions? According to the sales page for Ninja Affiliate Cloaker up to 95% of commissions are lost - I don't understand?

affiliate links have the general form:

          http:<basic salespage url>/<id of the affiliate>

A person can steal the commission by themselvs being an affiliate in the general system (such as click bank) and just replace your affiliate identifier with theirs. Some people just chop off the affiliate id and no-one gets a commission. Either way, you lose.

So, by having a nice redirecting script you can make the link look like a plain link which still flows through the affiliate system (so the proper cookies are set) and you get the commission. More sophisticated software can set keywords to be cloaked links, and can perform tracking on clicks, etc.

So, in my mind, it is an essential part of being an affiliate marketer.

An analogy would be that without cloaking it is like having an un-manned vegetable stand with a shoe-box for the money and hoping people will put the money in.

OR, if you are so worried about "losing" a commission, why don't you just stay out of the MMO niche. That way, the people who are visiting your website, DON'T KNOW WTF AN AFFILIATE LINK IS!!! (ie. the real world)

New here and I see this is an old thread but this seemed like a good place to ask this question. I have been using bit.ly to shorten affiliate urls and during a launch recently observed several hundred clicks on the bit.ly link but my affiliate back office showed 0 clicks. I am thinking about adding Pretty Links to wordpress but don't want to do it if somehow cloaking results in losing the affiliate link. Though some products I would recommend anyway, I'm in business to get paid! Is it a problem with bit.ly, or possibly something with the launch owners site? Or is there something I'm not aware of when it comes to cloaking?

If you are using wordpress, go for shadow link cloaker. I've been using it for quite some time now and it works fine as it cloaks links in both posts, pages and sidebar. you can use the free version as well but it doesn't cloak links in sidebar and it also has some other limitations. Google it.

here. Create a folder on your server /whatever you want it to be

inside for each aff link.. add blah.html (or whatever you want to call it).. Inside of html file put this:

    <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=AFFILIATEURL">
AFFILIATEURL Is where you put your affiliate URL .. This will work for any sub domain, or whatever...

Yep that's exactly what I do.
I would also like to mention that your clickbank nickname should be something that looks like its part of the url.

Dont make it "SportKid22" or something that makes the sale not official. That should be common sense though

        Here's a better solution.

        Do you use wordpress?

If so, download a plugin called GoCodes. It will automate all of that for you so you don't have to make any subdirectories in your FTP client.

        Much easier.
