Little rant:

Why do so many Warriors post, "Thanks for the info." or "Thanks for the share," etc.. ?

THAT IS WHAT THE THANKS BUTTON IS FOR!

OK, feel better.

Maybe because the "Thanks" button is too general, and the thanker wants to let the poster know WHY they are being thanked?

Or, maybe they don't know what the "Thanks" button is for, or where to find it. I've seen more than one post where people asked each of these questions, so I know it happens.

Those are a few reasons that come to mind.

    All the best,
    Michael

What makes you think Warriors are doing that. Most of those one liners I see are from people trying to hit 50 posts or get sig exposure.

That doesn't make them Warriors if you get my drift.

I am referring to the general, "Thanks."

No problem. I gave other possibilities.

Thought of one more, but I doubt it happens all that often. Maybe the person giving the thanks doesn't want to add to the person's Thanks count, so they post in the thread instead.

Ultimately, I don't really know, or care all that much. People are going to do what they do. I like to use the "Thanks" button for any number of reasons.

        All the best,
        Michael

p.s. I believe we are limited to clicking the "Thanks" button 20 times per 24 hours. And as soon as the oldest thanks passes 24 hours, you will be able to click it again. (If that makes sense)

Speaking as a newbie here I didn't understand the "thanks" feature until later on. Even then it seemed somewhat impersonal or superficial. After a while I realised you can't just keep thanking people in the traditional sense without your thread being spammed by your own thank you replies, so on balance it's a good idea.

Damn. I got my first "thanks" and it turned out to be a joke. I'm not feeling the love right now. Oh the shame of it all.

Like Michael said, people want to express their gratitude by actually "saying" it rather than just press the Thanks button. As least that's what I think. : )

I also thank people who really helped me, and yes, I think that thank button is too impersonal ... if I want to thank then why cannot I write that down, for me it also seems more polite to say thanks instead of using that button!!!

hey, we all have to start somewhere! lol
actually, i had an account here like a year ago or so and its GONE, i mean, not banned, but GONE, maybe they delete inactive users or something. (understandably)
but i prefer to do both. hit the button and say thanks, but comment with my thanks i guess.

I agree, although I can't stand the idiots who give "Thanks" to anyone and everyone just for the sake of it.

      I do both actually.

I click the "thanks" button, but also write out a personal note of thanks when (1) someone comments on/reviews one of my products or services, (2) someone answers a question I ask, and (3) when the info provided is so solid and useful it gives me an "ah ha" moment.

      But...

I hate the one liners as well.

There's actually a few different types of one-liners that I personally can't stand, and I get them in my WSO all the time. I'll save my rant for another time though.

      All the best,
      Derek

On a serious note I think the gratitude in this forum is one of the things that makes this forum so great.

The other day I noticed a Warrior with nearly 4000 posts who had never thanked a single post. I could not believe it with so much to be thankful for on this forum. Interestingly this same warrior had been thanked less than 100 times in 4000 posts.

SO thank you again for the OP.

I would like to see some kind of rating feature where you can credit a poster with something more than just a thanks. Something like what Yahoo Answers has with their "best answer" feature. That might encourage more Warriors to post quality content and also be rewarded for their time.

Agreed. I've brought that up in the past. I'm sure it's being coded as we speak. It would be fun for a while.

I'm sure it wouldn't be abused. Just in case, they could code it so it wouldn't be shown in public like the thanks. Just have it subtract 1 from the number of times a person has been thanked. Yup...that would stop any and all possible abuse. :p

They do it for one or all of the following reasons:

    1. They've lost the binoculars they normally use to see the THANKS button.

    2. They want to increase their post count.

    3. They don't want to waste the THANKS button.

    4. They don't know how to click on the THANKS button.

The places I regularly post at are related to politics and there's usually not much thanking going on. Or at least not enough for a button dedicated to saying thanks. So I'm just not used to using it.

Do they have a "concession" button? How about an "I'm ____ and I approved this message" button?

I think I'll have to recommend the "I'm ____ and I approved this message" button though. I could have lots of fun with that.
