Starting Over

Hey all,

I've been absent from the forum for almost year. I used to make a ton of money selling my own products and as an affiliate using the old Google Cash method. I didn't adapt with the times and kept on doing what had worked in the past, despite watching my profits dwindle to zero and literally six figures beyond.

After hitting bottom, pulling all paid advertising and stabilizing my finances (sort of), I'm ready to get back on the horse. I'm over $100k in debt, have two decent but neglected products, and can't pay my aweber bill to access my half-assed mailing list of less than 1000 people.

So... how does one actually start over?

How would YOU do it?

      Did you know that a plane uses most of its fuel during takeoff? This applies to businesses as well. You will use most of your time and energy just getting off of the ground. But once you're flying, the sky is the limit.

    The good thing is you realise what you did not do right. Spend some time updating yourself on the latest trends in IM.

    You probably know this, but I'll just say it anyway. The battle starts in your head. Convince yourself that you can do it again, then simply find the right horse and get on it. You did it once so with the right - latest - information, you can do it again.

    Lastly, a wise man said that when you've hit the bottom, the only way to go is up.

    Are any of your products still applicable today? Can you update them and sell them to new customers? (i.e., turn them into a video course or something.)

    Were they in the IM niche or another niche?

    You've already put in the time/energy/money to create them. I'm wondering if you can somehow leverage that to jumpstart your next venture.

    Both products were well received when they first came out, but they both need some updating. Both are in the IM niche.

    I've been debating trying to do something to refresh them, or just trying to sell them off and starting fresh.

    Re-release your best product redone on video as the "2011" Ultimate Update edition. Etc., Rebuild your email list goodwill, From releasing your first product, further develop and grow your list while putting your second product in "updated video" form and Releasing that with your bigger list, etc,etc.

    That's what I'm doing. Working and consulting to pay the bills, but I want to get online income going again as well.

    Here's an idea:

    Are the two products complements? You could refresh them both and then break up one of them into smaller pieces. Use some of the pieces as free giveaways to rebuild your IM list and then use the rest of the pieces to bolster the second product.

    Well, I guess what you can do is find another online income stream that works like the one that worked before. You can get into article marketing, banner advertising, seo consulting, autoblogging, site flipping, etc. and start making money. But if you were not in tune with what's been happening in IM world, there will be some leaning curves you need to overcome.

      Glad to hear you are still around and wanting to make a "comeback".

      I would sit down and really evaluate what you have. You said they need to be revamped and updated, so why don't you spend some time doing that, re-launching and using that money to move forward.

      You may not make out like gangbusters, but if the products were well received before, and you update, get some reviews from respected members then launch(even if it's here on the WF) then you should be ok for a short time while you figure out your new direction.

      If I remember, you were very very good with running successful adwords campaigns. Granted, that takes $$, but that knowledge is very valuable.

      Hell if you need help with the WSO $$, let me know. I know you have the skills and knowledge to get up and do this again.

    Wow, good to see you're still around too, Keith!

    I think I am going to refresh these products. I have an info product that needs updating, and would lend itself to a video course as well. The other is the software in my sig that just needs to be tweaked and promoted. It used to sell like crazy, but I've switched it over to an ad-supported model.
