This is how i was able to write articles 5 TIMES FASTER!

okay so i was writing about a subject and had to complete almost 100 pages.

I was thinking and writing at the same time it was taking a lot of time. I started thinking of different creative ways to complete the work ASAP.

By using this simple technique, i was able to write the articles 5x times than normal speed.

So here is the technique u can copy it as is or make modifications according to you (please mention if you come up with any better ideas)

1. Instead of writing the articles i SPOKE them. I recorded them in the audio recording software (i used audacity software). Now i realized that it was VERY EASY to speak something and explain it in a flow rather than typing it and making the corrections later on.

2. Once i was done with the recording, i would save it as an MP3 file and then play it and just type it. And because i just had to type i could type much faster!

It helped me saving a lot of time and frustration.

The concept is ..... "ONe thing at a time " can help u being more focused and productive

i hope this could be of any help to you, please post in a comment if you think it was

PS:
there are some ideas about speech to text software, but i am not a very big fan of those primarily because they make too many mistakes. They are not for me because English is not my first language.

THanks!

You'd save yourself even more time if you got Dragon Naturally Speaking.

It types for you as you speak.

Now THAT is a time saver. And the latest version is their most accurate yet.

Something to consider for the future.

When I first started using DNS, it was about 95% accurate... After 6 months of training, it is better than 99% accurate...

The only thing to truly be aware of with Dragon is that it can hog a lot of memory resources...

When I first put it on my 4yo computer, my computer started crashing daily...

I upgraded to a machine with 8gb memory, and now I can use it without any drag...

I speak fairly quickly most of the time, and it holds up fine for me...

My only real issue is that I have yet to figure out the shortcuts to avoid Toolbar Menu Items, like File, Edit, View, etc.

I have found that if I can think my words ahead of time, I can usually bypass this issue, by speaking quickly one word in front of the trigger word...

p.s. If you buy it at Amazon, you can generally get a good discount on the product... I saved 30%...

If your main business model is article marketing, then DNS is one of the best investments you can make.

But if you don't have the money to invest in DNS, then recording yourself speaking your article and then typing it does sound like a good idea too, though. Hadn't thought of that.

For you guys who have Dragon Naturally Speaking, I'd be intrigued to now what kind of speed you get in words per minute?

(Reason I'm asking is I type around 100 words per minute and I think Dragon would slow me down. But i want to get faster - it's either Dragon or retraining myself to use the Dvorak layout which I'm told could increase my speed by between 20 to 50%)

    TIA

    guys, thanks for suggestions!

Do you know about the FREE software speech to text converter in MS office?

I tried using that and it was not accurate at ALL!! So i dropped the idea of using dragon naturally speaking software..

I have found this first recording and then typing more worthwhile. It also enables me to think of any changes while i am typing. So i can stop the recording and make the changes.

By using this technique i am not too cautious about the "Speech to text " software rules and all that. I can be natural and even more conversational!

DNS has its own voice-to-text engine, and you can train it to respond to your speech patterns, so it does tend to produce far better results than the MS voice-to-text engine...

I have used both, and DNS is far superior to the one that ships with Windows...

DNS 11 is more accurate than previous versions but there are more issues with 11 being reported than I have seen with prior versions. Still with the issues it is still better accuracy and easier to use than previous versions.

I purchased DNS 11 Premium, not the PRO version. If you have previous version of DNS currently they are offering a discount for the upgrade. It is only available to more recent versions, I think starting at 9. It is listed on their site, nuance.com, what the restrictions are to upgrades. What they DON'T tell you is that the upgrade disc for DNS 11 Premium is actually a FULL VERSION and not a update disc where you have to put in previous version before it will install etc...

The PRO Upgrade is a regular upgrade disc where you have to have the previous qualifying version disc. Not sure why they did it this way.

Also I HIGHLY recommend NOT purchasing the software directly from Nuance or a local reseller like office depot or staples etc... The reason is Nuance support is HORRENDOUS!!!

They just really are not good at supporting their products. Basic simple stuff they have a FAQ on their site. They actually REMOVED the forum they had, I think it was because there was too many complaints and they refused to fix the issues. Many were specific to hardware and bugs in the software that were being reported version after version without any resolution.

Overall for dictating reports, ebooks, blog posts etc... DNS is the top voice to text software on the market and the newest version 11 is a lot better than 10.1 overall. I find it faster and more accurate. It correctly recognizes words that 10 and 10.1 would not without a lot of extra training specific to those words, that alone to me was amazing.

Even though I have a beef with the company itself, the software works reasonably well.

Instead of purchasing directly from Nuance or local reseller I highly recommend purchasing from KnowBrainer Home Page - Welcome to KnowBrainer the reason is their support is provided in addition to Nuance. So you get REAL support on top of whatever Nuance provides, which in my experience is very little.

I am NOT an affiliate and don't benefit in anyway for telling you about KnowBrainer but if you are going to purchase this software I suggest getting it from them. They send a detailed installation manual that helps you solve installation issues which some people have.

Now if you want to go another step and purchase an addon that KnowBrainer provides that allows you to control your entire computer strictly from DNS they have a package deal which I found very good. It's an optional addon which you don't need but I wanted to increase my productivity even more so I got the package deal.

It's all upto you what or where you buy it, I just personally find Nuance very hard to get support from and what they do offer isn't all that great. I am willing to pay a little more for support and wait a day or two to receive the software. It was sent FedEX and I got it 2 days after I ordered it from KnowBrainer. It even came in a nice carrying case, instead of the box.

If you want to checkout their review of DNS 11 you can go to their forum at KnowBrainer Forums - Forums you will also find specific complaints about the new version as well as what is working better, accuracy testimonials etc... Good idea to check out what people that are using it are saying, then if you decide to get it order it from them. Their support is really great and the guy is in the States not India.

I think this post started with a neat simple idea, that cost nothing. Excellent, I think sometimes we can get too fixated on technological solutions. For good article writing it is often good to go over the original text and at least act as your own editor. This method forces this to happen naturally, I am tempted to give it a try myself

Daryl, it comes standard on all Windows 7 machines (except for perhaps Win 7 Starter) and it is amazingly powerful, almost as good as Dragon. I've found that many people will have to adjust to voice recognition software, because while it is faster than typing it out, there is a slight lag between speaking the words and seeing them appear on the screen.

If you're a fast touch typer, this will initially seem a little odd because no matter how fast you type, the words will appear the moment you type them, and you'll have to get used to a lag when using voice recognition software. For most people, this adjustment should take no more than 1-2 weeks of intensive usage though.

Has anyone ever tried combining the two techniques? Is it even possible?

I mean recording via Audacity as suggested by the original poster, and then converting that to text via Dragon.

If Dragon is a memory hog, you could record during the daytime, and let Dragon do the conversions to text while you sleep.

Any Dragon users know if that is possible?

I've done it like that. Not with Audacity but with a handheld voice recorder. I'll use the voice recorder to record articles when I'm on the road driving. Then later, I'll plug the recorder to my PC, point DNS to the mp3's, and let it transcribe them unattended.

In fact that is the fastest and most accurate way to do it. Record an MP3 and have DNS transcribe it. It is 99.9% accurate that way while only 90% or so speaking for me. It is also faster.

There's something to be said for just learning to type quickly. I can type almost as fast as I speak and so ultimately it's much faster than recording myself, then listening to it and typing.

That being said, I think the issue with articles is coming up with new ideas, rather than how quickly they come out.

Both are important. But one thing I've noticed is that the way I write using a keyboard is different than how I write when I speak. In other words, the written word is different than the spoken word, for me anyways. And I happen to like the way I 'write' when I speak compared to what I write when I type.

I love using Dragon for writing articles, and I find it especially useful for rewriting PLR articles. If you try it, definitely take the time to go through the training process, letting Dragon learn your voice so it's more accurate.

I've never tried mp3 to text. What a great idea to be able to dictate articles in the car and later have them run through Dragon into text.

I have DNS 10. Is it worth it to upgrade from 10 to 11? Typically I wait and buy an upgrade every other version for most of my software.

Yes, there is speech-to-text included in win7. I happily stumbled into it it's in control panel, speech recognition (make sure you're viewing all control panel items). Invest in a good, good mic. This was my beginner's fail. Better quality = more accuracy. Training wasn't too bad. DNS is better. OP's free idea is definitely worthy to consider to

One way I've found that can really speed up your article writing is by writing a short outline using pencil and paper before actually typing that article. This really speeds things up especially when typing up short articles as it keeps you laser focused on exactly what you need to be writing.
