Hi all,

Interested to know your thoughts on interview recording equipment -looking for something small and lightweight but can handle a mic plugged into it. Looked at the MicroTrack which looks useful but wondered what others of you are using. I plan on going to the customer's business to do this.

These will go up as podcasts.

Thanks

    • Thanks Aussie_Al,

I was thinking perhaps doing these on the fly - as in meeting people in their business. But yeah, online one is an option too.

    • Are you recording an interview where you are live in the same place with your subject or are you interviewing over the phone or online?

    • Depends on what you're price point is. I use something similar to this Olympus recorder. It's not expensive but the sound quality isn't the best.

I plan to get either a ZoomH4n or an Edirol R-09HR. They have much better sound quality and give you multiple audio channels.

Additionally, if you begin doing phone interviews its easier for them to record phone calls.
  • I use a SONY ICD-PX720

Here's why: It is Dragon Naturally Speaking compatible (10-Preferred). So I can hook it up and it creates a TEXT file for me and with a simple push of a button, VIOLA, pdf file too.

It creates MP3s. Easy to upload and edit. Stereo Mic and Stereo headphone plugs. Hi-Lo sensitivity.

It has been my best friend for the last year. Good piece of equipment.

  • I would suggest the Canon ZR 960 Digital Video Camera. I use it and it is amazing. make sure to get a stereo microphone though.

    • Check out buy-digital-audio-recorder dot com.
It has reviews of several of the best portable recorders. Some have XLR jack for using an external microphone. You can also upload the sound files to your computer for easy editing with all the recorders.
