Redirecting to the outside website

I see that when redirecting to the outside websites, some websites just simply redirect, while others redirect to a page, and that page does actual forwarding. For example, take a look at this site Furniture | Craigslist Search If you click on any of the heading then it actually takes you the page on craiglook.com which forward you to a page on craigslistl.com.

You SEO experts...which way is better?

on my website www.spotthings.com, I just do a simple link to the outside website, should I forward it to my page which inturn should forward it to the "real" page?

any input will be appreciated.

thanks

You can do it with a jump page for a couple reasons:
    • You want to track the clicks so you know where you are sending people when they leave your web site. e.g., Google does this when you click a results link from your search - they surely use it as part of the ranking algorithm. You may also want to do this when hosting ads on your site for others so you can provide them tracking details.
    • You want to set an affiliate cookie for the outbound link. You may have seen this in Internet Marketer's sites where the link says something like someimguru.com/recommends/productxyz
    Hope it helps.

The redirect method where it automatically forwards to the new page is called a 301 redirect. All SEO attributes are retrieved from the target site.

The landing page method offers the ability to optimize it accordingly, but a single page with limited content may not rank well, so a 301 redirect is probably better.

Wow thanks for asking just a relevant question for me. It was one of those little issues that had been bouncing around in my head for a while, and I was hoping to find some info here on Warriorforum.

Big thanks to the people with the know how who took the time to answer, those of less "in the know" sure appreciate it
