mailing lists - how do I start?

I am quite new to internet marketing, I have post a blog and trying to create my own mailing list, but I am quite lost...
my main question is how do i get good traffic to read by blog?

    By creating content good enough for your target market, finding out where your target market congregates and then figuring out a way to funnel them to your site.

    Look at marketing from a "problem/solution" standpoint. Your problem? You want people to go to your blog. How do you do that? Brainstorm solutions and work towards them.

    The funny thing here is that you are probably looking at it a little backwards. I don't think you really want them to come by and read your blog....I think your main directive is to get them to sign up to your mailing list. The content is just the "carrot".

    People will always follow someone that is holding the light in a dark room. Why? Because he has the solution to their problem. And as long as the problem continues, they will always look for the solution. Human beings hate problems!

    Find out what people in your niche are looking for, show it to them and you will be their leader for good.

    Relevant solution will always provide targeted traffic.

    But if you can't generate the traffic naturally, you may consider buying it.
