Have Questions on Writing First E-book
Well, I'm taking the plunge. I am going to write an e-book to sell. My first one. I have the topic ... well, topicS because these two are closely related. So the customers will get a double bonus. Plus, I've put up a poll asking which or both they would like to see an ebook on and "both" won out unanimously. So, the masses have spoken.
Ok, here are my questions since I've never done an ebook before.
1 - Which is the proper format: e-book or ebook (so I know how to look professional when advertising - have seen both ways so was unsure).
2 - How many pages is just too much for an ebook? I know that font size and white space will play a part in how many pages. While I'm not going to do my pages in regular book format (page after page of single spaced text), I'm also not going to do font size 14px, tripled spaced lines, where it takes all of 5 seconds to read every word on a page. I have a lot to cover, so I do not want to waste space.
3 - I have both MS Word and Open Office. I've experimented with typing something up in Word and trying to make it a PDF in Open Office and none of the simple formatting would carry over. I even had that problem with typing up something in the OO "Word" and converting to PDF - format got messed up. (Akin to html code looking great in IE but not rendering right in FF).
SO - does anyone have a step by step tutorial (text or video) that explains how to convert from a text document to pdf in Open Office and yet maintain all formatting (inserted images, columns, etc)?
4 - What is the running consensus on inserting a logo onto each page of the ebook (company logo if you will). Is it annoying? Does it mean anything more than just typing in your company name?
5 - Is there anything else you would suggest that I should pay attention to, look out for, add, not do, etc that most first-time ebook writers not might be aware of?
6 - Would it be rude to pepper in affiliate links via anchor text links throughout the book, like you would an article? Or what is a more preferred way to handle affiliate links to multiple products/services that closely relate to the topics in the ebook? Or should I just forget about affiliate links and be happy with the profits of the ebook?
I'm still in the research stage for the topics, gathering notes etc. But as I'm gathering the material, I'm also thinking about how I want to layout the ebook (chapters and such). So, much of the above information will help me in many regards from the beginning.
