Any wordpress experts out there? Need help

I made a new page on my wordpress site and it was perfect! I placed a picture to the right of the first paragraph and I was proud it looked so good. I went back in thinking I should change a couple of words and bamm! The first paragraph was then completely bolded. I went to the html side and saw the strong tag and deleted it.

Then the rest of the page then was double spaced, which was originally single spaced. I went and deleted the whole page to start over and each time I start to write the page from scratch it now wants to double space. I dont see anywhere where you can change it to the original style of single space.

Anyone have any ideas or has this happened to anyone else?

    Hello David,

Typically has to do with a the hidden line breaks within the saved file. More than likely the file is saved differently (with the than with what the software you're using to edit is set to use.

There are 3 different ways for computers to read line breaks:

    CR = Carriage Return
    LF = Line Feed

Windows: CR LF (aka \r & \n (which creates the double spaces)
    Unix: LF
    Mac: CR

Note: These are used within every file when 'Enter' is pressed. These are not entered manually!

Using just LF should correct it, so you'll probably want to check the editor you're using.

The same happened to me when I started using Wordpress, I actually don't even remember how I made it stop.

But you seriously shouldn't re-write any page when it happens. Just copy paste it to your notepad and it will be free of any formatting, then try again - try pasting it back into Wp (there is a button to "Paste in as plain text").

      David,

Besides using notepad for all your blog post insertions, if you would rather write your posts in advance in MS Word, you can and then in the Wordpress post box area, there is an MS Word icon you click and then a pop up box opens up and you can copy and paste from MS Word, the content you wrote from Word. Click on "insert" and you have the text content inserted less the formatting junk.

It's always better to write a post off the blog so when you take a break, Wordpress won't log you off when you get back to it a little longer. I lost more text content when it logged me off when I was taking my time typing my post

When you pre-write your post then log in, you simply copy and paste quickly and you're done. Don't forget to click publish or update button right after you make the changes....

Outstanding tip netkid, thank you for that. I just re-wrote the post in notepad prior to your message here and used the texp pad insert function and it came out pretty nice actually.

But when I tried to add a picture for atmosphere and wake up the page a bit the format changed so I ended up having to leave out the picture on that page.

Strange though I uploaded it to the upper right hand side and it kept going to the bottom right of the page as well.

      David,

Are you using the "add image" icon button above the WP blog post box? Where you insert the picture/image shouldn't change anything with your text. It should word wrap around the picture no matter where you position it....

My question is how are you adding the picture? Let's see if I can help.

Yes I used the add image earlier and it was saved in my media library so now I am re-doing the page I was trying to upload it from my media library to the top right of the page which I do all the time for my other blog posts on different sites.

I have already changed themes twice and still have the same issue.

Typically when I having problems like that with the formating of the post, it's the tab "format" in the wordpress editor. It creates all sort of funky problems.

Just highlight the area of text and then change the "format" tab to "paragraph". That should do the job.

Even if you cut and paste into notepad and the post it back, that format will kill you.

      David,

When adding an image, make sure you are in "visual" mode. That way, when you position your cursor where you want the picture, you will get your desired result. Don't insert picture in HTML mode.

When you find the picture in the wrong place, simply click on the picture from your post box and then click the delete (the red circle), then start over.

Like you said, you will see the same picture you want already in your media library. Click on "show" then your picture screen will pop up. Don't forget to choose the position of insertion (left, middle, or right) and then size, and lastly insert.

      Hopefully it should work!

Its funny because I am taking the same steps I always do, the same you mentioned, and it is only going South on me on the one page. All the other pages came are fine I am at this point, perhaps not going to use an image on that page But the site is looking very nice at this point.

Probably way late than needed, but what I usually do is copy/paste into notepad when this gives trouble. Turn off word wrap under edit menu, then cleanup spacing/etc

Paste back into NEW post/page, check HTML and visual if it looks right. Then work with images/fonts. The more complicated the markup, the more risk WP is going to auto-correct and bollocks it up (probably the reason for issue to begin with.

    If using notepad...
After you have saved the post, in order to use it again with the proper coding, you need to click 'format' un 'word wrap' it, then 'format again and re-word wrap it. That will take out the line breaks.

You can get rid of formatting errors by simply clicking the HTML tab and pasting your text in there. Then switch back to visual mode for make any edits, like bold or images.
