Do you think wordpress is ruining the internet?

I noticed allot of people are creating these wordpress adsense sites about particular niches and throwing ads and adsense all over them. "Some" not all have poorly written content and the soul purpose of the site is to make money off of ads. Do you think these sites are flooding the internet?

Nope... WordPress is not ruining the Internet...

People who do not care about their visitors, but only about their own profits to the exclusion of the wants, needs and desires of their customers, are ruining the Internet...

    Bill's right.

WordPress is nothing more than a platform that a lot of people know how to use.

Why not blame ICANN for releasing all of those domain names?

Why not balme the hosting companies for "allowing" these sites to be hosted on their servers?

Why not blame the ISPs for giving these people an internet connection in the first place?

Why not blame their source of income which gives them money to be online?

Okay, those are all way over the top examples, but the point is the same. WordPress doesn't control the content, so how can they be to blame?

Before that it was Blogger and Squidoo, if WP goes away, something else will come along to take its place. Guaranteed.

    All the best,

Doesn't matter, though, does it? Quality sites will thrive and go forward, earning their owners good incomes. The people who produce junk won't last, and then they'll spend the rest of their days whining about how you can't make a living on the internet.

I don't dig it but I don't blame Wordpress... bl4ck h4tt3rs have been doing this long before Wordpress hit Main Street...trust me on that. It doesn't matter what platform is out there, if it's exploitable for profit, someone will look at it and come down on it like a rain of locusts. Sadly that's just the nasty part of the interwebs. :/

As in people pumping out blogs with rewritten articles just so they can make $200 a month in click bank sales. I'm not saying all people are abusing the system I'm just saying there are people out there with 100's of these sites and making $20 a month of each.

Maybe not. I know what you mean - and I am not talking about Wordpress versus Blogger versus some other platform easy to use ruining the Internet versus the "greed of the human beings" ruining it.

        Have you seen mountains?

Do you realize, every mountain is surrounded by smaller hills?

Have you seen a society where people are "intellectuals" - say, writers, for example?

Walk into the society - the town of writers - and you shall see that there are thousands of "small and medium" writers apart from the famous ones that you knew from outside.

And there is no exception to this.

In an exactly similar manner, the Internet has grown to be some great and informative sites coupled with many lesser sites - lesser by various degrees.

This is the law of nature - the normal phenomenon that is seen both in natural structures and human societies.

And the Internet is demonstrating the same statistical nature of framework.

Is this when you go to Google as an internet user trying to find things you want on the internet?

Or when you go to Google as a marketer checking out the competition for a specific long-tail buying keyword you just dug up in Market Samurai?

Because when I do keyword research, I see a lot of autoblog and MFA crap. But when I want to find something specific that I'm actually, honestly interested in? I tend to find exactly what I want pretty quickly. Not a lot of autoblogs.

Hey, have you ever considered that all your keyword research comes up as global monthly search results on Google?

Just wondering. Because a lot of those autoblogs might be pulling their results from... well, you know.

          Great point Caliban...

I have always known that Marketers and Keyword Researchers tend to do all of their work in Google...

And I have always wondered how much the Marketers and Keyword Researchers skew the search results, to provide other Marketers and Keyword Researchers inaccurate information, which a new website owner might consider the "egg from the Golden Goose"...

In other words, make up a word, "trinkleting"...

Then the 400+ people who have read this thread realize when someone comments that if you take the -ing off the word that the root word is actually in the Urban Dictionary...

So people reading this thread race off to Google to search first for "trinklet" to see what it is, and then they test "trinkleting" to see if anyone accidentally put this word into their websites, and they find that they have...

Suddenly, "trinklet" and "trinkleting" gain a surge in usage that will be identified in Google keyword tool, Wordtracker, Market Samurai, MicroNicheFinder, etc., and other such keyword research applications...

Then marketers will be confused what that is and wonder if it is a niche they should be involved... So they will also run to Google to do research...

Then other marketers will see thousands of people searching for "trinklet" and "trinkleting"...

They will also see this thread of course, but only some will dig in to see the social experiment gone mad...

Within just a couple months, we might see niche websites popping up on the fantastic new trend of "trinklet" and "trinkleting"...

          It will be awesome...

Yet before today, only a few people ever looked at "trinklet", because they were curious what the word was... And only a few people from this thread would have looked up "trinkleting" because they wanted to see who misused it and why...

          The circle begins here...

The circle will begin small, and as more Marketers and Keyword Researchers discover the trend started here, more will research it making the trend circle increase in size with each pass...

And some people will inevitably misinterpret the keyword research information and build an entire website full of trinklets!!!

          Just wait and watch...

Let's see if we can viralize this and let the keyword research alone inspire to build a website about trinklets...

Fingers crossed and an evil grin on my face...

Wordpress blogs filled with nothing but scraped duplicate content are a waste of everyone's time (including the sucker paying for the hosting and domain). Fortunately, every day that passes, the search engines refine their algorithms to weed out this crap. Once upon a time, you could make a ton of money from a duplicate content 'niche' site. You can't nowadays. Once upon a time, changing a couple of words in an article would fool a search engine into thinking it was unique. Not anymore.

I completely disagree that wordpress is ruining the internet..

It matter how you look things.
wordpress gives an ability to users to cut there web cost. If you are not good in programming and you are paying $10 every time to your programmer then it's not good but with wordpress you can easily manage things yourself and people says that making automation of blog with some plugins works that is only a myth.

Yes, it's a bit rich blasting Wordpress when 7 out of 10 websites are porn-related! There will always be people 'gaming' the system by throwing up (intentional phrase) blogs with limp rehashed or poorly written content, and if you SEO that blog then it will end up as a depressing unfulfilling option on the 1st SERP.

Deliver good content via Wordpress and let the scammers and spammers do their stuff. They's always be with us and they help good sites stand out.

Wordpress is a fantastic platform - but anything basically good can and will be abused. Isn't 'Free Speech' another example? How about TV?!

Another point worth stating - if you run a collection of spammy 'MFA' sites, and you have slapped your adsense ID on them, boy, you really are a noob. Any complaints against ANY of your sites, or Google flags one up automatically, and they will use your adsense ID to identify and dump all your sites in about 0.5 seconds flat

I blame domain providers more than WP.

A simple check in say 6 months time to see if the domain is being used appropriately could easily weed out 90% of the pants on the net.

Spammy WP sites I don't mind half as much as perfectly good domains being wasted with "placeholder" pages pretending to be info portals and splattered with ads as "results"

I'm all for freedom and the last person you'll hear saying "there oughta be a law!" but one law I would welcome is one saying that if you're not using the domain, bugger off and let someone else use it.

Wordpress is just a platform to create a website.

However, you mention websites that are for certain niches and then have adsense ads all over them. These websites are not ruining the internet.

If they are poorly written, and contain useless information, nobody is going to find the websites because they will not be highly ranked in the search engines. Nobody will click on the ads and the creator of the website will not be making any profit so a website like that will eventually disappear.

But, a business website has the #1 goal of making money. If it does not focus on making money it is a hobby, not a business.

There are very useful and profitable websites that provide good information and have contextual advertising all over the page. Left hand columns, the main column, the headers, footers...all over.

Of course, what one person thinks is useful content, someone else will think is junk content.

Other visitors of websites or blogs react like you committed a crime if you post any advertising up on your blog at all. This is just the nature of people and their differing opinions.

Wordpress is the way of the future...a more interactive web making it easier for people to communicate and get involved in conversations rather than just staring at pages like billboards on the side of the road.

Wordpress, and actually all blogging in software in general, has introduced some awesome technology.

Wordpress has made it easy for websites to grow very large with lots and lots of content where multiple authors can contribute their own thoughts on the same topic.

Wordpress has made managing a large website easy and it has allowed other people to make wordpress itself become even better because it is open source and allowing for plugins to be created by anyone who is capable to do so.

The internet is hardly ruined, it is only growing and changing.

As far as I can tell, about the only thing Wordpress has ruined is the market for crappy scripts for making crappy, scraped, MFA sites.

It's just a tool, like a carving knife. You can use the knife to create art or a pile of shavings. Your choice.

Caliban, you make a disturbing point when you talk about the keyword researchers influencing the results seen in the research. It might explain why we get so many threads that say they found a great keyword with X searches, but they only get X/100 visitors.

How many of those global searches originated with the Google keyword tool, Wordtracker, Market Samurai, MicroNicheFinder, etc., etc., ad nauseum, ad infinitum...
