There a ton of programs that I love for IM. Right now, I have an obsession with Camtasia. It is a really powerful tool that can help you in a lot of ways (from screencasting to simple video editing).

I use Camtasia a lot.
Wordpress (I'm not great when it comes to creating static pages)
Another is Traffic Geyser.

I'm sure they're more but besides auto responders, but I can't think of much right now.

UltraEdit32 (or other text editor, SSH client, and SFTP client)
Paint.NET
Audacity
Microsoft Office (or OpenOffice)
Camtasia Studio (or CamStudio)

If you don't have $750 to drop on these, try the free alternatives listed. UE32 has way too many good alternatives to pick one.

Umm IE(Internet Explorer) lol no offense or pun ment but how in the world can you multitask whit that?
Its horrid slow and laggy and tabbing is buggy after 15 tabs its like i am going back to 1998 oh well havent used IE since 7.*) not that i use any microsoft program any more.as for my list

Was almost turned on by Kompozer
but as for the rest
- Photoshop get Gimp=freee.
- Magix Movie Maker=Kdnlive =freee (nonwindows thou edit:not sure maybe theres a win binary now days)
- Microsoft Office =open office free faster and prettyer
