I lent it to a friend to go wild with it, now he doesn't use it so I decided to take it back and market w/ it.

A generic domain is a name that is the name of something such as Fish.com,
    Credit.net, Loans.org, Bikes.us.

Non- generic domains are called brandable domains. These are names that don't mean much and need to be marketed. So Yahoo.com, Google.com and ClickBank.com are brandable domains.

    Nope.

As RSK3000 says, a generic is something that you can look at and instantly know what the website is about... and it's also usually 1 word. 2 at a maximum. (Clearly long tail EMDs aren't generics!)
