What are the best web 2.0 sites?

Just doing some research on web 2.0 sites and wondering what you think are the best sites to use for marketing your product or website?

I know Squidoo and Hubpages will be up there among the best, what other one's do you use and why?

There are these one click sharing platforms like Posterous, Tumblr, Soup.io which are underrated when it comes to marketing a website. Those three websites are growing at a trememdous rate and more people will be using it in the near future.

Other than that, there is Weebly, which is quite good.

I'd actually say don't waste your time with those.

The only ones worth including in any real focus I'd say are: Facebook, Youtube, Wikipedia, Craigslist, Twitter.

Many IMers waste a lot of time trying to include too many places in their efforts but with things like this it's similar to link building and article marketing - quality is better than quantity.

I thought that a link from hubpage is pretty good because of their internal structure, which provides bunch of backlinks pointing to your article which points to your site?

I don't pay any attention to what people say about these things - only what my experience shows me.

I see lots of people talking about the 'benefits' but I don't consider links, pagerank, alexa rank, etc.... benefits unless they help me make money.

In my experience - hub pages are not worth my time compared to other places and tactics.

There are a lot of people who will tell you to use Squidoo, Hub pages etc... and a couple of years ago I would have said the same.

If you're bored and just want to do something extra with your content - go for it, but if your time is valuable to you and you want to be effective with it - it's important not to just follow what the herd tells you and find out for yourself what is a good use of your time.

Everyone here does realize that Web 2.0 sites bring a tremendous amount of pre-established search engine authority to the table, right? IMHO....it's extremely unwise to NOT use them as part of a much larger strategy....

I totally agree, having used those web 2.0 properties listed above to great results, i'll say they play an extremely important role in my ability to rank websites. In fact, although the traffic generated directly from them is minimal the linkjuice they pass to my money site is massive(which leads to better rankings=more visitors. I will reiterate from experience that it would be "extremely unwise" to not use them as part of your seo strategy.

And I would agree with that TODAY. But do not see using them as a long term business model. Everything changes, that will as well, but may as well do what works today, to do otherwise would really be a little foolhardy.

2.0 implies 'social'. When automated, they do not work as well as if you personally spend the time. If/when they become automated by enough people, their benefit will cease. Twitter... Bots selling to bots with a shrinking sprinkling of humans in between. Facebook, better, but headed that way. Even the ones not automated are being used more for 'gamed' messages instead of the WOM they were originally designed to be.

In my VERY humble opinion, the time needed to utilize those resource 'correctly' is a coin flip as to whether the time invested is worth the pay-out.

Right now, because of their WOM 'perception', they do appear to carry weight. At some point, I am not sure that will stay true. One needs only look at the 'downgrading' of the 1st '2.0' sites to see a pattern.

Anything can be gamed. In the case of 2.0, the entire model relys on it not being gamed. As soon as it is over gamed and the 'powers that be' catch on, the platform becomes less effective. In my view.

Of course, they can still be used properly and/or gamed effectively, but I do not see that lasting.

MSN's communities/groups was a great lesson. Historically, history repeats itself.

At the moment, we are making around $1000 a day clear profit from Facebook. So I think it's fair to say that Facebook is definitely my favorite web 2.0 property

I find we can get a ton of traffic from Twitter, but they don't buy...they are too busy promoting their own stuff.

I haven't tried Facebook for marketing. Do you have a Facebook account solely for the purpose of marketing?
