The Stats Are In...Summer's Over

Has anybody else noticed this?

Over the summer, my EZA stats were pretty low. As soon as September
kicked in my daily views have almost doubled?

Also, sales are up about 20% over August.

What are your stats like? Same? Different? Has September gone the other
way for you?

I've spoken to one very close friend of mine who really has his pulse on
these things and he said that industry wide, many marketers were crying the
blues in August. For me, it was my worst month in like 2 years, and that's
saying something.

So what was it like for you?

    Yes, things started picking up at the end of August, and now they are going crazy. This is going to be our best month for about four years. Let's hope it keeps on trucking...

    Strange but the IM bizs I am in had a fantastic August and a slow September. Some may have to do with seo and search rankings, but not all.

    You would think that when folks are back from vacation, and the kids are back to school, must stuff on the net should pick-up.

    June/July/August tend to be similar for me, but this month (September) sales have doubled with the same amount of effort.

    I don't fear any particular months, but the numbers always clearly show better results during the autumn/winter months, on a like for like basis.

    September has been much better for me too. July was low, August even lower, but I can't complain now

    I noticed the same things Steven. My EZA traffic nearly doubled this month. I had some articles that I wrote a couple years ago which have gotten zero views the past 8 months and all of a sudden they got 50 views this month. I hope this is how the winter months go.

    August was my best month yet. But the one market I made the most money in peaks in August so its downhill until Dec where I will get a smaller jump.

    My brick and mortar business was the same though - if I did not make the money in August/Dec, I was looking at kraft dinner for the rest of the year.

    Saying that, my other markets are booming this month on visits to the point that I wish I knew why. I know sales will follow. I guess Steven just told me why.

      I noticed the same. Article traffic is up, sales up and adsense income increased this month even though I took August as a vacation from doing much of anything online.

    I used to cry the blues about August, until I took a historical measurement over a few years...

    I no longer cry over August, but instead, I accept that August is just bad...

      Bill, I used to think like that except Aug 2008 was my 3rd best month of the
      whole year.

      Ironically, November and December were my best months that year with
      December becoming my best month in history.

      Go figure.

      My sales in August took a dip down over July. It was still a good month, just not better than July. However, September is GREAT! Five days left in the month and I have already beat last months sales.

    August has consistently been my worst month of the year. At least for the last 3-4 years.
    I just figure what will be, will be. I take time off as well, so I'm putting less effort in.

    Why is this do the American summer Holidays have that big an effect? or are there other mitigating factors?

    As someone who has only really been doing this since July I want to try and prepare for the worst, and maybe circumvent it by having a few niches that thrive on summer holidays i.e travel etc.

      Cathy, MOST of the money being spent online comes from the US. And
      of that money, most from the East Coast.

      That fact explains so many things including the best times to send emails,
      promotions, etc.

      A long time ago, I wrote a short report on this subject after doing a lot
      of study on email stats. You can find this info online if you want to beat
      your brains in looking for it. I don't even know which report I included
      this info in so I couldn't find it if I wanted to.

      If I'm not mistaken though, I found the info by going to Google and
      looking up email statistics. There is a site just dedicated to this subject,
      though I don't remember what it is.

      If you look hard enough, you'll find it.

      Point is, just like with the stock market and so many other things, the US
      has the biggest influence in this world when it comes to e-commerce.

      I don't know why it is...I just know that it is what it is.

    Yep, sales and service projects have picked up this month as compared to last month for myself as well. So far this year, September has been the best when it comes to earning money.

      August has traditionally been slow for me - and it's frustrating because I know things will improve come September.

      That's why I decided not to worry it this year - took August as vacation and just cruised through it. Beats bashing your head against a wall while people are taking their own vacations, getting kids back to school, etc.

      Try it next year - I think I'm going to make August an annual vacation event at my house.
