On page 1 on google for high volume keyword, but no visitors??

Hey all

I am sitting here and wondering a bit why I haven't had one single visitor from the keyword "small business software"

I am on page one in google (granted it is in denmark it might be different in the US)

wouldn't you normally see at least some traffic from a page 1 keyword that has 135,000 global monthly searches?

my site is Allround-invoice.com and here in denmark it pops up at number 10 on page 1 in google

Kind Regards

Hmm. same thing for the keyword "invoice software" (on page 1, 8th result) but no traffic??

this is true for several keywords it appears?? is this just because I am located in Denmark and get local search results or is this a global thing?

I searched on small business software with and without quotes from the United States and your website is nowhere to be found in the first 5-10 pages of results.

Hmm ok that would explain it then it's because I am located in Denmark I get these results.

      Couldn't understand it either...

When you check your google position for a certain keyword, make sure your logged out of your google account and clear your browser cache. Sometimes, sites that you visit a lot will appear at the top of your search results.

If you want to know where you really rank, go into your google webmaster tools - your site on the web - its something like keyword ranking,,, or something like that.

agreed - when you search and have clicked on a result (like your own site) google will track that and show you that result higher up on the page.

I checked both terms in the US and you're not in the top 50 (sorry).

You could be seeing personalized results. I used to get excited about some great rankings that I had for certain keywords until I realized I was seeing personalized results and wasn't really ranked that high.

Not no. one that I can see in my browser.

You have to be careful with Google because the more you search for it on your computer the higher it goes.

Use a plugin like global search for firefox so you can get some real results.

Wherever you are located, you should always check your results in google.com if you are targetting US clients. Also more than two words are supposed to be long tail keywords, so try to focus as much as possible in keywords with only two words.

I can see your site in google.dk its number 10

Is your site hosted in denmark

If your site is aimed at a certain country through hosting or domain then it can eaily be ranked in that country but not in the US

      I do that with google.ie

Oh that pesky google adwords keyword tool says word gets 10 million visits a day yet no one comes? When you do the research make sure when you enter your keyword you check the "exact match" box only in the left sidebar. If not all you data will be wide and is like a shot in the dark. A longtail key word or dual word may show a high volume of searches in a broad view and with exact may just be a small amount. Also you have to remember their tactic is to sell advertising, so the results shown, will show the volume amount for web, images, mobil, video and more.

I echo Kev's sentiment. But a bit of advice on keyword research: try not to use 'broad match' to gauge the amount of traffic a keyword gets. Your present keyword 'small business software' is 135,000 broad, but only 9000 global monthly searches exact.

    Can you see the disparity?

Always bear in mind that broad match results include a host of other search terms, and these help to inflate the results google's keyword tool returns.

    Hope this helps.

If you want an idea of where your site is ranking in the organics without worrying about logging out of Google, etc., try this site:

FREE Search Engine Rankings Check in Seconds

Just put in your domain name and your keyword phrase and it will tell you where you rank -- not just in Google, but also in Yahoo, Bing, AOL, and several others.

What's nice is that if you visit frequently it will "remember" the previous results and show them to you with the new results, so you can see how your site is ranking over time.

Okay ... lets start with the basics. Your site from a simple search says you are hosted by in denmark on IP 212.97.134.19.

So I opened up the Google keyword tool and did a broad match search using Denmark data for that keyword and it shows a monthly (broad) search volume of 110 local searches. Changing to exact shows 22 searches. Interestingly, exact global searches drops massively to just 9900.

So sorry, but it is not a high volume keyword in your geographic location and only 330 daily exact phrase searches world wide each day.
