Facebook Fan Pages - No More FBML As Default?

So last night I setup a Facebook fan page for one of my niches, complete with custom FBML tab/page with a Aweber subscription form to capture leads etc etc, the usual.

However, it would appear that Facebook have removed the ability to set the FBML tab as the default landing tab for people that don't already 'like' the group. I read some discussion that FB now require the group to have 10k fans, or pay $25k.. eek.

I've also read some comments however that Facebook reversed that decision, and now it's available to people again... however, it's not to me.

So I was wondering - Has anyone else been affected by this change? If so, what are you now doing differently to capture leads?

I heard it affects only community pages, not the business etc pages.
    Can anyone confirm this?

It's interesting to note that Facebook basically OWN the web experience of the mast majority of web users. Whatever they decide, happens. So the solution is to become drinking buddies with facebook decision makers.

It should still work for business pages. Try that and see if it works.

Facebook pretty much imposes their way of things on it's users, which is their right as it is their site and services. You pretty much have to change and adapt to the way they want you to do things.

They also do not like you to link and drive traffic off their site. I believe that is why high profile people that I know that used facebook as an branding outlet and communication method for their business found out that they were banned without notice.

I am not sure how FB feels about building an off site list directly from their pages, fan or otherwise. Places like FB, it isn't just what they say or don't in their TOS, it's how they manage their site and services over time. You see a trend of what they want and don't, sometimes it is confused as they rethink things sometimes on the fly.

Overall though you see a consistent policy, whether it is in print or not, as to how they want users of their site and services to use it. With Facebook, from my perspective of it, they want you to play on property and tie your off site properties into their network so they grow and users have more consistent experience and interaction. All through the Facebook Network. The don't want you to leave facebook, instead they want you to incorporate your sites into theirs.

Just what I am seeing, whether it is written down or mentioned somewhere on their site or not. My advice is to not rely entirely on one platform or social network. Use their site to get people introduced into your funnel, services, products with how they allow you to do that. Then do the same for other networks, within their rules, but have a central source that YOU control through your own hosting account. You may find that FB doesn't like what you are trying to do with embedding your own opt-in forum into your page and they close your account without warning. I am NOT saying they will or wont, do or don't like outside opt-in forms, I don't know.

Just be prepared if for whatever reason, FB closes your account and possibly prevents you from opening a new one. What would you do if this happens? Would it impact your business greatly?

Facebook has it's own ways and means, they don't really share a lot about the decisions they come to. They just do. Adapt to whatever happens and changes, if you can't do what you would like to do, get as close as you can with what they provide and keep on keeping on.
