Recognizing an opportunity

Just saw an example of a company taking advantage of the malfeasance of a competitor.

News of T-Mobile's recent efforts to censor text messages gave Credo Mobile the opportunity to send out marketing emails boasting of their own dedication to free speech, blah, blah, blah, and inviting the recipient of the message to change over to Credo's superior and caring service.

It may sound as though I'm making light of their message, but actually whoever wrote the copy did a superlative job, and whoever decided to take advantage of T-Mobile's missteps did as well.

All in all, a nice lesson in creative marketing.

P.S. They were also able to take a shot at Verizon, who did essentially the same thing (as T-Mobile) in 2007.

Yes, but you must understand that Credo Mobile may become a significant enough competitor to T-Mobile, that TMobile purposely did this to see how able Credo is at regaining their customer's perspective on what they want to buy.

Later, I won't be surprised when TMobile buys Credo. Will you?

Free speech is very good point which hardly any marketer of communication product ignores. That was good sight by company.

One series of ads I really enjoyed was the Verizon vs. AT&T 3G ads, where they poked fun at each other about their 3G download speeds. Another great series was the Cox Cable vs. AT&T DSL ads, those ads really got a bit brutal.

For me, the thread's a pleasure, even if only as a welcome example of the word "malfeasance" being correctly used. I'm just saying ...
