    why don't you just use one on your own domain that either re-directs to the site or that cloaks the website. It is very easy to do

      I usually use PHP redirect, but I don't know how to cloak the website.

      It's not normally a problem except with ClickBank products.

        Can anyone tell me the true and simple answer to this question? I have always wondered and nobody has ever provided a clear answer.

        How can people steal your affiliate commisson ASIDE from simply recognizing your affiliate link and replacing it with their own IF they are an affiliate (such as Clickbank)?

        Then, if the person IS an affilate and doesn't use their own Aff ID, and they get to the ClickBank order form, how much brainpower does it take for them to abandon the order, visit the ClickBank marketplace and find the proper hoplink for them to use to get the commission?

        So in other words - how can you possibly STOP someone from "stealing" your commission if they are an affiliate, and why would you worry about it at all given that most people are NOT affiliates?

        It seems to me this is only a problem in the "make money online" niche since everyone is an affiliate!

          You can't completely stop them, only lessen the temptation.

          Correct. That is the only way.

          - it might not be easy to find the product in the ClickBank Marketplace (the search is
          dependant on the Marketplace title and description)

          - the product might be one of several in the publisher's account
          but not the one which shows in the Marketplace


          Having said that there are other ways to use your own link without
          needing to go to the Marketplace

        Php redirect is usually as far as take it on my own websites, if you are going to cloak the website then it is better to get a link cloaker just like you have just done. Good luck protecting your commissions

      Nothing is 100% proof but by cloaking your affiliate links you will stop a lot of them since they're lazy pond scum who won't take the extra steps involved to steal your commission if your link is cloaked--but again it's not 100%.

      Even in niches outside of IM you should still cloak your links. Theft might not be as rampant but one of the main reason's is that folks outside of IM might get leery if they see those funky looking affiliate links and might not click thinking that link looks dangerous.

      It's hard to fathom for folks in IM but most folks don't know what an affiliate link is and they won't click it because they think it's a phising or something like that.

      The other big reason to cloak you links is tracking. If you're just throwing affiliate links out there without tracking then you're not maximizing your efforts. You're just guessing. It's like throwing mud at the wall to see what sticks. The big guns in marketing track every click you make for a reason.

    Clickbank is particularly problematic to affiliate marketers due to its ease of sign up for anybody to be an affiliate.

    It's great to be a merchant there. Not so good if you are an affiliate. Particularly a new and inexperienced one.

    I've personally always felt that in general affiliates get a raw deal from the system. So many do so much work only to get nothing in return.

    The only thing you can do really is to offer a significant bonus if somebody uses your link, only to be delivered after the refund period has passed.

    Cookies are also unreliable. It would be nice if the buyer needed to enter a coupon code during the buying process so that you are always credited with the sale.

    This would also allow much more control of the process so that a merchant could have a "weekend only" sale with a 20% discount for example that affiliates could promote.

    This could be offered to all affiliates or just some as it could be controlled by the coupon code entered by the customer.

    As security and privacy concerns continue to escalate popular browsers like FF and IE may make the storage of cookies less common or at least we will be more active in which ones to store and which ones not to store.

    Run any spyware or virus software on your computer and it will identify cookies as things that should possibly be deleted and many users I'm sure do just that.

    Bang! All of your marketing efforts just got flushed.

    The idea that a massive industry like affiliate marketing is run almost entirely on the 'browser cookie" system is really quite ridiculous.

    Surely it can't last too much longer. Hard working affiliates should be treated fairly and many are not.
