KW Research: Listen to Traffic Travis or...

Dear fellow warriors,

I've just finished a WSO. Now, I'm in KW research step. All IMer know that an IMer should target a high search volume and win-able KWs.

In the WSO, it says 'stay away from authority site'. Meanwhile, Traffic Travis says 'relatively easy' to rank.

As what I've researched, authority site is one that is seen influential and trustworthy by search engines. There is some America non-profit organizations sit on 1st page of google.

So, as an advanced IMer which move would you choose? Go with Traffic Travis or avoid it? Any help would be appreciated.

Too difficult to know based on that information alone, to be honest.

Using SEO4Firefox or SEOQuake, I'd suggest that you check the top 10 result's PR (page PR not domain PR). If the average PR is 2 or 3, then it might be okay to go after.

Alternatively, look at the average PR of just the top 5 since if you are outside of the top 5 you'll only get a fraction of click-throughs from the SERPs.

You will have look at the stats to get the idea.

If there are 3 or more authority sites on the first page then leave it for now.

There is stats of several data from TT tool, include Google Pagerank, I have no idea what's the different of page PR and domain PR. :p

In SEO quake, there are some ranks - Google Pagerank, Alexa Rank, SEMRush Rank. Which one of it?

So, does it mean that if there only 2 authority sites or less, I can go for it?

Again, that depends on the nature of competition. You will have to look at them. If they are some monster sites optimized for your niche then it would be difficult to topple such Gorilla.

However, if you find that rest of the competition is manageable then go for that niche.

I can't stress enough on this: Don't just look at the numbers. May be some website has hundreds of thousands of links, you think aww this is a Gorrila. Reality may be different, you have to look at the Authority of those links.

Oh wait, by the number you've given, I supposed it has to be Google PR. Correct?

Be careful with Traffic Travis. I have seen many errors and discrepancies when using it recently.

I use Traffic Travis for lots of things but not Keyword Research. I find it very useful when i perform llink analysis and other things. But,i think the tool is a bit unreliable when it comes to keyword research.

Best bet would be to use the updated Google's Keyword tool, which looks to be really accurate. Also, research using multiple sources like keywordspy.com and wordtracker etc.
