This Is For NEWBIES Only...a Facebook aha Moment

I am very stubborn when it comes to trying new things...

So when I kept hearing how well marketers were doing on Facebook...

...of course I didn't believe them and assumed it was a ploy to get me to opt-in to one of their stupid products.

Come to find out...I was wrong!

Here's what happened...I recently conducted a test...I JUST joined Facebook back in August and I joined for one reason...

...To see what kind of results I could get...

I have to admit...I'm a little blown away by it all!

Today will be a total of 41 days that I've been on Facebook and here are the current results as of today...

1,481 friends
243 members in the Facebook group I created
58.7% conversion rate on my squeeze page (linked from Facebook)
51 subscribers IN 2 DAYS!

I guess you could say...I was wrong and it doesn't pay to be stubborn. There's no secret to how I did any of the above.

I could probably create a product and sell it based on these results...

But I'll just tell you how...

I created my own profile page (using my OWN PICTURE of MYSELF), requested to be friends with a few of the gurus (Mike Filsaime, Chris Farrell)...

...And requested to be friends with their friends.

Then over the course of the next thirty days, I just interacted with as many people as possible...helping them with problems, answering questions, posting some cool free stuff too help them out (WITHOUT PROMOTING ANYTHING - NO AFFILIATE LINKS!)...

Then, just yesterday...I finally told them I had this awesome free gift that I thought would really help them out...I had already built the trust, they know me and... the gift is pretty cool!

That's why my conversion is so high...

What it boils down to is Facebook really is a great tool...if used correctly...so please, take what I've given you here and put it to use!

I hope this helps you get going if you're stuck right now!

All the best!
Duston

Excellent advice. I do the same thing with Twitter - I NEVER use it as a selling tool, just somewhere to interact and build trust. People find me and my blogs by reading my profile.

Hmm .. so 51 freebie-subscribers out of 10+ hours (?) of hard work is considered a success these days?

Not trying to sound rude but .. I would really expect a result MUCH higher than that if I need to work that hard to achieve it.

51 subscribers in under 2 days...many people are on Facebook already usually wasting time...why not get something out of it.

That's why the title says for NEWBIES only...this isn't a breakthrough by any means but it's a start for anyone starting from scratch.

Most newbies are looking for a "push-button" strategy where they can sit back and watch their email list explode...but there isn't one.

Just trying to provide another avenue

If I had started promoting my page back when I started I'd probably be lucky to have 51 subscribers today...

Facebook is the most trafficked site on the internet, so it makes sense to get involved.

    I'll give you're method a try.

Good on you for trying new ways of generating Traffic Duston. I've had some success with Facebook ads (I don't have patience) and know it has great opportunity. It does take time though, but you will probably learn good lessons there as a Newbie

At least you are showing folks how to do Facebook correctly. I see people making pitches every single day on Facebook and I do wonder if they ever sell anything.

What you proposed here is sound advice and many folk would do well to try this approach on their sites as it is good old-fashioned marketing. Build your list first then go from there.

I've been bombarded with all of the FB stuff as well; but never really considered it so far.

This may be something that I can tie in with a project I have been playing around with... Thanks for the info.

BTW, anyone having any success with FB ads? I am still not convinced that FB will really convert. But I have been wrong before...

Thanks natorob! I haven't tested it as much as I should but it really depends on the niche you're in...

obviously if you're here, more than likely it's internet marketing which you can bet the CPC is outrageous as it is everywhere...the way you can target your audience though is pretty cool!
