What's the deal with all these exit pop ups.
1. They dramatically increase the optin rate, and revenue of the product owner.
2. Everyone hates them and most people want to opt out of any marketers list who promotes a product with 3 exit pop ups.
3. It just seems so slimy.
If the average internet user visits a site and tries to leave a page only to see, "Wait, before you go I would like to offer you a $10 discount!" They most likely freak out and think their computer has been hijacked. If they then try and leave that page and see yet another "Wait" they probably get suckered into giving their email address just so they can get off of the page.
Now, when someone has 2 (or even 3) exit popups on a website... It actually is a virus and their website should be banned.
Having one exit popup, so long as it makes sense, is not incredibly bad. Again, I stress IF IT MAKES SENSE. As an example of one that might make sense I would say if you are selling a book that teaches driving traffic, it might make sense to have an exit popup that says something to the effect of - wait! Just enter your name and email and I will send you the first 2 chapters of my traffic driving book for free...
I would like to encourage marketers and product owners to stop adding multiple exit popups. It is slimy, cheese ball marketing. The type of stuff you wouldn't want to show your family and more importantly, the type of stuff that your prospects and clients will look down upon you for promoting.
(This rant came along because I just checked out the past couple of product launches and they all had 3 exit popups.
