Writing proper article titles - Looking for how to get to the next level to drive more traffic

After taking a few months off to write a free report, build and tweak my squeeze page and learn how to cater to my email list, and transferring my static site over to Wordpress, it's time that I get back into article writing to drive more traffic to my site to build subscribers. However, after my last batch of articles I wrote in the month of June, I never really got a chance to critique them so I could make them better.

I don't want to make the same mistakes as before so I wanted some feedback as to why some of my article titles killed it while others bombed.

Here's the title of probably my most WILDLY successful article that was published several times, and was on the list of most reviewed articles for the month of June and July:

**Note: I wrote this thread about a month ago but wasn't ready to post it because I decided to switch over to Wordpress, so the numbers/stats may be a little higher now.

Manifesting Abundance - 3 Easy Tips on How to Remove Doubt When Using the Law of Attraction

Published: 6/5/10'
Views: 548
Clicks: 123
CTR: 18.8%

Why did a title like this do so well?

This title also did well, but not as well as the first:
2. Manifesting Abundance - 3 Quick Tips That Will Speed Up the Law of Attraction - views: 142; clicks: 41; CTR: 28.9%
3. Manifesting Abundance - Taking This One Step Will Make You Successful With the Law of Attraction views: 138; clicks: 30; CTR: 21.7%

Why did these also do relatively well.

On the other hand, articles with these titles completely BOMBED.

Manifesting Abundance - Is There a Way You Can Manipulate the Law of Attraction to Work "Better?"
Manifesting Abundance - Is There a SECRET Cheat Code to Get the Law of Attraction to Work "Better"?
Top 5 Mistakes That Have Caused You to Fail Miserably at Manifesting Abundance


These articles were published either in late May or sometime in June and have only had around 20 views.
What's going on? I actually thought these were good, catchy titles?

    Well, if your articles are not ranked anywhere...then its kinda hard to get traffic just from Ezinearticles alone. Try different places. Usually if one of my articles isnt doing well, i take it down, and submit to GoArticles.

    I don't focus on getting traffic and views to my articles. CTR is what i want. But again, its me.. 28% CTR is very nice.

      Oh yea, of course I submit them to other article directories including GoArticles, but EZA is of course the most popular one.

    One thing that's clear from the examples you've posted is that all the ones that bombed were headlines asking the reader QUESTIONS.

    On the other hand, your winning headline contained a clear benefit - "how to remove doubt" when using the law of attraction. No question.

    This may be reflected in the way people search for things. They are more likely to search for "how to remove doubt" than "how do I remove doubt?" in a search engine - and thus the headlines asking questions got lower views.

    Hi Ike

    Just checked an can see you are ranked number 1 for "Manifesting Abundance" on Eza ... with an article that has had 542 views since June ... pretty good stats.

    The same is on page 3 of Google position 1.

    My advice is to backlink to the article and push up in Google ... amongst other things I do this a lot and watch my traffic go off the radar

      Wow, I'm STILL ranked number one? I really had no idea because I haven't checked in months because I was busy working on other aspects of my business. I've already linked to this article in other article directories. Any other suggestions on where I should link to it?

    I would dip into the SEO forum there are a ton of strategies and ideas discussed for building quality backlinks.
