What Are the best Methods to Promote a Social Membership Site?

Okay, so I'm calling all warriors with membership site experience. I'm planning to launch a social site but I'm not sure how to go about getting members. I guess the easiest way would be to ask Allen about emailing the entire warrior forum, but I don't know how much that would cost me .lol

Anyway, I thought about PPC and Bum marketing but if I don't have an active community that would be a bad way to start. I thought about myspace, but spamming sucks. I think facebook's PPC program would make sense. Once I have a rather active community then the press releases, articles, PPC and radio ads can start making way.

For the moment being I'm just kind of stuck getting members to sign up and post. Do you guys have any Ideas on how to jump start a membership site?

Thanks!

    Hi,

I read from somewhere on how myspace.com started. One of the well-respected member in Friendster then was asked to test it out in Myspace.

This member has many fans following her around and there was an email sent by this member to her fans telling them of how cool Myspace was.

So I guess that is how a small community started and it became a big community.

I think the same principle can be used too and I think the bottom line is about building relationship.

Another way is Joint Venture with other Internet Marketers with lists.

    My 2 cents,
    John

I thought about myspace and twitter about inviting other people to check out my site, but I'm pretty sure that would come off as spamming. I know how much spam sucks so I really don't want to take this approach.

I have a ton of membership site experience - PM me if you like

PPC will be very expensive up-front.

You should sell low-cost products (which can be done with affiliates) and bundle a free trial of the membership in with the purchase.
