Antivirus / Spyware Threats - How Secure Is Your Site?

Hello ,
Everyday there are more and more viruses being released and people are getting their systems hacked , information stolen , and files ruined. We all look for the latest and greatest programs on the market that can prevent this type of behaviour and we locate multiple programs with top rated reviews , word of mouth testimonials. We also see in the forums the negatives about these products as well.
So my questions are as follows


1. What Antivirus / Spyware programs Do Warriors use to protect their websites , products, and their very own PC's?

2. Have you ever run into an issue where you scan your system and you get the all clear ( system has found no Threats but you then upload another system , perform a scan and get the news where a virus such as TrojWare Win 32. Downloader is found? You just spent something like 49.00 - 59.00 for a well known product and suddenly another program picks up a virus that you would have thought would have been picked up by this latest greatest program you have spent your hard earned money on.

3. Do you ever use multiple programs to scan your system compared to only one?

4. What are your thoughts on Zone Alarm , Comodo , PC Tools Spyware Doctor, Bit Defender , Trend Micro etc

5. What makes you decide to use a particular program?

    I use AVG to protect my computer, its free and I've never had any problems with it. I set it to scan once daily, and it also updates daily with all the newest threats.

    For online safety - I use kerio personal firewall. It is also free and provides added safety while you are connected to the web.

    1. I use Avast on my laptop and AVG on my pc. Both have Windows Defender (comes with Vista). I also use Adaware and my latest discovery, MalwareBytes. I rely on my webhost to protect my websites. (lazy I know) and scan my webspace with the antivirus through cpanel occasionally.

    2. Lots of times - both on my own pc and clients. If you visit your local computer repair shop you'll probably see ranks of sick pcs and laptops being scanned by a variety of software before everything is safely removed. I'm not technical, I just know that some spyware in particular can bury itself deep in your system and be a real b***er to find.

    3. See 1 above. But your should never have more than one antivirus program active. Adaware and MalwareBytes are antispyware and are not proactive, at least not in the free versions.

    4, I no longer use ZoneAlarm. It was causing myself and most of my clients a lot of problems. I rely on the firewall in my router and the one built into Windows. Comodo I've not tried nor Bit Defender - although I understand BD is good (and I think uses the same antivirus engine as Kaspersky?). Trend Micro have a brilliant online virus scanner which I've used many a time for clients.

    If you use multiple programs to scan your system - how do you prevent all of them running at once? How can you set up where they do not automatically start up with each reboot?

      As I said, you should only have one anti-virus running. Adaware and MalwareBytes are not proactive and only scan when you tell them to. Windows Defender is proactive.

    Antivirus Software: Kaspersky Lab - Protection Against Malware and Cybercrime is the best solution .. For PC owners.. Other than that I would say buy a Mac ( you know I had to say it ..lol)
