We have found that both Facebook and Twitter are used in producing and generating traffic to your site, blog, ect. But which one have you found to be the BEST? What different strategies have you used in each and have achieved success? Or are there other ways you've found more productive? Just wanted to pick your brains and hopefully generate good opinions we can use.

Thanks!

I think Twitter was the better of the two for a while, but lately Facebook has taken over as the more affective of the two, at least in my opinion and what I hear from others lately.

I think they both can be very affective if used right, however.

The newbie marketer will see that Facebook is the BEtter of the two because the user count dwarfs that of Twitters. FB has 500+ million while Twitter has 80+ million, but I would argue that twitter is better if you are marketing a very specific product in a small niche. FB, on the other hand, is good more making your name known and branding. So it's probably better to integrate both of them into your marketing campaign rather than choosing between them.

I totally agree. When it comes to traffic, facebook is more effective. My strategies? I created a group page and invited people who are interested in the same niche. Each time I update my blog, I post a link to my Group's wall and leave an inviting headline that would make them want to follow my link. I have 500+ members (still growing) in my group and at least 50% of them visits my blog

Just a tip: Be a good group member. If they want you to check out their link, do so and they will return the favor

      Hope that helps.

I think facebook is great as you can work on a certain demographic and target it more...

Why limit yourself to one or the other? If you combine Facebook and Twitter, you'll have very powerful synergistic marketing that is more than the sum of both combined. With the tools and plugins available, it is really quite easy to integrate both Facebook and Twitter with your blog, and this results in a killer marketing juggernaut that works for both online as well as offline marketing.

facebook has more subscribers but twitter is more viral. I think it depends on your niche. Younger and consumer tends to work better on facebook. B2B works better on twitter. But test both and find out. track your links - send different links to both networks and see what works better for u

  • I have found Facebook by far to be the best. First of all, it has many more registered members. Secondly, it has features like fan pages, like buttons etc., which can be used to generate much more traffic to one's website than any other social network including Twitter.

    Ebay
    Youtube

I think Jeff Johnson showed that he achieved better results with 500 followers on Twitter than a thousand fans on Facebook

I like twitter because it faster (making profits) than FB. Anyway, I also agree that FB is little more effective than Twitter..

The "Best" social media network for you will be the one you focus the most consistent time and effort cultivating. Engage a community and build an audience. Then it will be responsive.

Both Twitter or Facebook work great for sending traffic. But they take focused time and effort to see decent results. Auto-bot stuff doesn't work well with either one now that people are growing more savvy.

I think we can all more or less agree that social media is going to be an important component of our marketing efforts for a long time to come. Instead of deciding which to use, we should not only incorporate facebook and twitter in our marketing efforts, but also seamlessly integrate them into all our marketing channels (even offline) so that our target market will find it natural and normal to spread the word about us via social media. Do not discount the viral effect that social media can have on your business, this is how you can in effect have thousands' of dollars of free advertising at your disposal!

Formulaic "me too" mentality like that will not get you anywhere in internet marketing. Try to think out of the box a little more.

twitter seems to be getting spammy as a result you get less responses ...facebook is more effective right now. facebook is less marketing driven so you will not find everyone throwing ads at you, and remember every webmaster is really making money for himself he is not really interested in making someone else rich...that is the problem with twitter right now too many marketing experts all wanting to get the most for themselves. you would have to be really good to get someones attention

I haven't used either the way I should, but I've found Facebook to be a lot better for me - even though the way I use Twitter it "should" be the better of the two.

As others have said, the numbers are just so much larger with FB.

I agree that FB can be more effective than Twitter in terms of the information you can distribute. Twitter on the other hand can also drive traffic but spamming is a major issue.

Some of the spam you get on Twitter is ridiculous. I think I prefer Facebook for the sheer capacity it holds in terms of users.

I was checking Twitter for one of my niches yesterday of 80 messages, 2 of them were from real people, the rest were auto bot crap

No wonder John Mayer closed his twitter even though he had over 3 million followers

I like Facebook over Twitter. I use them both but the key for me is relationships. I get spammed way more on Twitter and I think Facebook has more people that are on the site for relationships and not into marketing per se.

I also get higher dollar clients contacting me for my Internet marketing, social media, consulting and speaking services.

I like Twitter for sending traffic to blog or landing pg and building a list.

I like Facebook for attracting clients, establishing credibility, building relationships and making sales.

I also like online directories like Yelp and Citysearch as well.
