Affiliate Marketers - Which do you prefer?

For you affiliate marketers out there.... As a product owner who launches products a few times a year, I am wondering....

Would you rather promote a product and have the affiliate contest be a strict 1-10 (or whatever) affiliate contest where the top affiliate gets the grand prize and so on a so forth...

OR...

Would you rather have a tiered contest where if you make 10 sales you get a prize, 30 sales a better prize, 50 sales a even better prize, 100 sales an amazing prize and so on and so forth.

Which would you prefer and why? I have seen both models used but I am unsure which method to use for my next launch. Any feedback is appreciated!

I think the second one is better as it gives new affiliate marketers a chance. 10 sales is not so overwhelming as whatever number the top affiliates do and you know that you don't stand a chance.

Besides it keeps them interested as they don't have to compete with others but just to do as best as they can.

Small affiliates get motivated by guaranteed prizes.

Big affiliates get motivated by big prizes.

The smarter affiliates ignore contests. They send some traffic to A, some to B and some to C - see which yields most $ and send there all the time, contest or not. The contest may temporarily peak there interest but it;s all about the bottomline.

You say the bottom line...well, having extra googies as prizes would increase that bottom line (for the affiliates).

      So what am I missing?

This is an interesting point of view. While I have seen prospective affiliates send traffic to different offers, then increase it when it converts. I do think having a contest, like Adeel says increases that a marketers bottom line.

Especially for the big affiliates when the top prize is a MacBook, an all expenses paid trip, a car, or whatever the top prize is.... thats motivation right there, not to mention the ego boost of being in the top 10 affiliates of an major launch.

I will look at myself. At first I will promote any product evenly. As promotion progresses, which ever product gives more sales I will concentrate on those more.. I'll not even look at sales rewards. For me if product converts well, that's what matters most.

    Hi Jason,

    I would go for this

"Would you rather have a tiered contest where if you make 10 sales you get a prize, 30 sales a better prize, 50 sales a even better prize, 100 sales an amazing prize and so on and so forth."
I believe there is more reason to keep on pushing more sales.

And as Azlan has mentioned, a sales page which converts well is the key.

    Cheers,
    John
