Entering The IM Battlefield after 2 Years Away, Any Advice?

Hey all,

I used to be an Internet Marketer...hell once an IM always an IM, right?! Anyway, I left the biz about 2 years ago while I was working a full time job and way too stressed to juggle it all.

I've since started my own "offline" business as an IT Consultant and strangely find myself providing marketing consulting services to many of my clients! Well I've realized I love IM and want back in.

One of my good friends who has no doubt brought many of you into IM and coached a great deal of the IMers on here, mentioned in passing some of the major changes since I was in.

So I thought it would be a good idea to just get a sense of what you all see as the best first steps for someone to get back in the game, knowing I have a knowledge of many of the basics, so not a newbie's guide or anything.

Thanks in advance!!!

Not sure what your talents are but you may want to start with browsing around in the warriors for hire and see what services are offered. Perhaps there is something there you are familiar with that you can offer, even better. Also look around at the WSO's not to buy but to see what people are buying and if there is something there that you are familiar with and can create your own product, even better.

There are so many directions it's really hard to point somewhere unless you find out what interests you the most and what is within your comfort zone that you think you can do.

The options you have basically are create your own product to sell, sell someone elses product or offer a service. Figure out what tickles your fancy by browsing.

And make sure that the product will be of great value to those you are offering it. Stay focused on whatever niche you are and make the best out of it.

Ditto. I've only been in the game a short while, but I keep hearing over and over from the experts that the basics have remained the same for years. I would get up to speed on some of the automation software that has come out since you left. The quicker you scale your efforts the better. Good Luck!

  • As far as the fundamentals go, I dont see much change in the last two years: squeeze pages, sales pages, email JVs, product launches, sales funnels, Wordpress blogs, CPA, etc. Pretty much the same game I was playing 2 years ago. Sure Facebook, webinars and other tools have boomed, but at the core it's still the same thing.

      Very interesting replies, thank you.

So I tend to agree with the concept that the fundamentals are the same. I'm not too interested in tricks or virtual "gadgets" right now, really I want to find my niche, setup shop, and write the best damn copy. Then get traffic there.

So traffic seems to be my #1 concern. Should I focus on Adwords, SEO, does it depend on the niche?

And as a side note, who uses twitter here for marketing? And how?
