Using Messaging To Talk With International Client

Just a question about messaging with an international client.

Has anyone had experience using audio in an instant message to talk with a client halfway across the globe?

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

      Hi,

The best system to try is Skype, this works around the world, and if you use Skype to Skype it is free.

      Hope this helps

You seem to be asking two different questions.

To answer the first - audio with IM - I always use Skype. I've tried the Google and yahoo audios, but the quality is much better with skype. Skype to skype (ie computer to computer) is free. The advantage of skype is that anyone can download and use the software without having to pay a subscription.

An Internet phone service is different - there you are using your internet phone to call a landline (or someone else's internet phone, on the same network) - as far as I'm aware that has no connection with messaging. I'm guessing you have to pay a subscription, so it's unlikely your customers around the world will be willing and/or able to use the same service

You can use Skype, subscribe to their monthly subscription service ($13.99) to call the whole world for free. Check this out : Unlimited calls to landlines - any time, day or night.

I am currently subscribed to their per-country service, which only cost me only $6.99, calling to that specific country, unlimited calls.

    Hope this helps, Millard.

msn conferencing works pretty well too and its free... given the client has webcam... my laptop has built in microphone and webcam so both skype and msn works fine for me :-)

I tried out Skype and stayed with it. Calling or audio messaging overseas clients with regular applications will not give you the best quality audio and connectivity.

All my clients are international, haven't had a problem yet with using Skype with any of them. If they're particularly luddite, may take some convincing to get them to install it. But even if you have to call a land line, SkypeOut gives pretty good rates for that in most cases.

    Thank you everyone!

I FINALLY installed Skype on my Mac, made my first call through my internal mic and couldn't be more pleased!

I shake my head every day at the technology we have available.

    WHEW!
