Must I use Thesis Theme?

Is it essential that I use the Thesis Theme? I found a WP template that already has the exact look that I want pretty much. Is there an easy way to "steal" the appearance of one template and incorporate it within my Thesis Theme? I only want to use Thesis since that is what everyone says is the best SEO WP theme to use.

    I don't use Thesis.

    You don't have to either.

If you found something you like, then just use it. Forget all about Thesis.

      I never use Thesis either - and I don't have a problem with SEO - at least, I don't think I do!

There are other framework themes you can use to design almost any look you want.

Or just use any theme you like. Just do a search to make sure that it's a reputable theme and doesn't contain hidden links to sites you'd rather not be associated with!

When I first started IM I'll admit I got marketed pretty hard and bought Thesis.

Do I regret it? No - it's a pretty awesome theme and you can do incredible things with it design wise once you learn the hooks and ways to edit the different files.

Is it user friendly? Not really. If I were to do it all over again I'd recommend just using out of the box wp themes and learning how to use plugins properly rather than dropping the cash on thesis.

You absolutely do not need Thesis to kick ass in SEO. It is nicely setup for SEO but nothing you can't do on your own with some smart plugin handling and site coding.

I use Thesis on most of my sites (not all) only because, for me, it's just way easier to use once it's set up. I would think that any WP theme is fine for SEO. If you find a WP theme that you are happy with and like the look, use it. I personally prefer Thesis for the ease of use, but that's just my preference. It's nothing to do with SEO, just that I happen to like it.

    Hope this helps....

If you want to check the integrity of a theme, upload the Theme Authenticity Checker plugin (TAC)

It will tell you whether the theme is kosher, or has viagra backlinks in it.

Often it comes back with one backlink to the creator, which I think is normal

Nobody is saying which other Framework is any good...

Thesis is not the be-all-and-end-all theme for SEO.

I also don't think Thesis is a theme to be used by a non-techie. Seriously, it's a cumbersome theme to work with, in my opinion.

There are so many excellent free themes available but if I was to recommend paid themes, it would be Woo Themes or Studio Press

I use Thesis and many other popular themes (e.g. WooThemes, StudioPress etc.) on my WordPress blogs.

Thesis is not the best SEO theme because most premium themes nowadays do come with those necessary built-in SEO features as well and they do about the same.

If you were to ask me, I'd say Thesis is the lightest and fastest loading theme which slightly helps when it comes to SEO and SERP ranking.

My advice is, if you can afford $87 (the personal option of Thesis) and are going to customize it a lot with your coding skill, go for it. Just for your information, Thesis without further customizations will look very plain and boring to you.

Otherwise, if you're looking for visual wise, other premium themes might be your choice, if you're not going to customize it and want an "install-and-go" theme.

All in One SEO Plugin will replace some of the features the Thesis theme presents. You will be find without it...just make sure you use plugins to get it on track..google xml sitemap is a must!

The theme SEO thing is a gimmick. The premium themes just make it easier to enter your title tag, meta description and keyword tags. The only feature that's relevant with Google Instant and Bing/Yahoo is the title tag.

Everything else you do for SEO is more important and effective than the SEO benefits you get from a theme.

If the theme you like is from a reputable developer and you like its look and feel, then go ahead and use it. Thesis is not the be-all and end-all of themes, and it may take too much work and modifications to make your Thesis theme look like it.

  • Thesis is better left for the designers in us I think, it is very extensive and is definately not for the beginner if you really want to make the most out of it I would recommend a good dose of html and css knowledge with a dash of photoshop.

If you just want fast good looking sites then tehre are other options, if you want a free web 2.0 style theme then freemium is quite a good one. As for seo, its not the etheme that does that. It is YOU. Stick a theme up on its own and I doubt google will notice it lol

For a beginner the default theme that comes with WP 3.x is more than enough: you can customize the header image, the background, the layout of Pages... that's already almost too much to digest if you are new to WP.

    There is NO "must-have" theme...

too much of hype about thesis though i use thesis in more than 5 of my best sites. there are soem free themes that does the same as of SEO part of thesis. The default twentyten theme is itself good for SEO and also themes like cutline is good for SEO.

Cutline is from the creator of thesis (Chris Pearson), give cutline a try...

    Thanks.

There's no need to use any particular theme, this design choice is entirely up to you. It's not exactly easy to "steal" or "carbon copy" the appearance of another theme though, and this explains the existence of thousands of themes that cater to just about every taste and preference.

I use Thesis for all my blogs and i do think it is seo optimized theme.

Thesis has a built-in nofollow, noindex, noarchive under each post or pages, which it can be used to redirect an affiliate link, for example, you can put them on nofollow, without using robots.txt or another meta tags plugin.

Though you can do all of those with plugins, using too much plugins slow down our sites..

My recommendation is, when you dont have a budget, use free seo theme like neoclassical, twentyten theme, hybrid, etc..they are seo optimised, once you can pay for it, try it because it has 30 days money guarantee thing. I personally did that too, first free theme, and then buy thesis.

What i love the most from Thesis is, using XHTML strict DTD, it forces visitors browsers to be more strict, it also means more accessbility both for search engines bots and visitors. Thats what i personally believe.

To me, Thesis is a SEO theme.

    Go for Thesis!

I am a thesis designer and I build all of my sites using Thesis. Why?

Because the theme gives me enough options to change the layout, use hooks and optimize the SEO.

If you connect with me, I can help you up with a little customizations and when you have a new design, you can stay sure that others won't have the same design.

Also you can have the theme for $40, I have a developers license and I can offer that to you

Here is my portfolio site: Wordpress Thesis Designer Portfolio - ThesisThemeDesign

Personally 90% of my blogs are running on thesis.

    5% are running on Genesis

And the last are no big themes (but they are mostly used for my list building campaigns)

So technically I would tell you to use it.

But Its ok if you don't.

    ddlingo,

Pay attention to Craig and to Isvan. They both know what they are talking about.

If you want to know what the theme is on the blog you found that you like, view the source code. Look through it carefully, the name of the theme will probably be mentioned in there.

Then you can go search for that theme on the net and at Wordpress. It may be a free theme. You won't know until you figure out what the theme is.

Thesis, Genesis Framework (by StudioPress) are great tools for people who aren't stellar at php. It's a simple, turnkey solution that is popular, but adequate results can be achieved with almost any theme if you modify it correctly. You don't need it.
