Is there anything that really works???

Hello Fellow Warriors... I have been online trying to make money for a couple of years and while I have learned an extreme amount and taken lots of action -- and lost tons of money -- I still feel like there is something missing.

Most of what I buy ends up being 98% hype... alot of it rehashed material and alot of wasted time (and money). They all say that this is whats gonna get you out of debt!!

I thought I would start this thread with the hopes of finding someone that is just a poor soul trying to make a little money online and it really worked for them. I would absolutely thrilled if I could make just a couple of hundred dollars a week -- or even a month at this point!

Please let me know if there is something you have tried and has actually worked for you.

Thanks for your feedback.
Robin

Yeah something I know that works is not buying money making products and using that money for advertising.

I spend alot of my money on advertising on and off-line and research.

I do alot of list building "i use get response, but if you are looking to use a free one there is listwire"

I optimize my page but don't do to much more than that as far as seo goes it's to time consuming for me in my niches (mostly because of large corporations) so I'll go on places like fiverr and pay people $5 to post articles and backlinks for me

I NEVER use google ads or any other major ad service like them they are over priced in my opinion now.

I have gotten in to mobile advertising because it's pretty cheap but I use a mobile optin page to captue an email

but like I said I do mostly paid advertising. That works best for me.

I have tried PPV (and lost quite a bit of money), FB ads (didn't see much of a return after doing extensive keyword research for six month - more money down the drain). I have alot of SEO training which is what I basically do with my time these days.

I really appreciate all your feedback... thanks!!

I have been making good regular money by freelancing in between writing my own products and this has really worked for me. I have been making money online for more than ten years this way - the IM and niche marketing is a relatively new thing for me - but the extra money I have been making from writing every week has been really handy in our family. Feel free to PM me if you want some details on how to get started

Here is what has worked for me during my experiment.

      1. Find a problem that people have and that you can really help them with. In my experiment, it was helping people fix their computers and remove viruses.

      2. Research keywords that have the most traffic based on what you are doing. I plugged words like antivirus, anti-virus and remove virus into google keywords and found a few I felt I could compete with.

      3. Make a good website and have good content that actually helps. My site is listed below in my signature. I would recommend calling the local community college in your area and seeing if they have a web design degree. Get the contect information for the professor teaching it and then ask if he has a good student who is looking for work. I had the site below made for me for $175.

      4. Put google adsense at the top of your pages.

      5. Start some kind of backlinking strategy. I used angela's backlinks and used blogs to comment on.

      6. In 6 months with just 50 backlinks a month, I ranked number 5 in google for two keywords. I am getting about 175 visitors to the site a day and making round $450 per month just from that one site on adsense.

I have some other experiments I am running, I'm getting ready to do an ad on the right side and try to sell a how-to video for removing viruses. I also have some other sites I am trying different things with like affilliate marketing and selling a product I came up with but I dont have any concrete data yet so I can not comment on those sites.

I can tell you honestly, just me screwing around a few hours a week on the first site started to bring in the $450 a month which has sparked other ideas. If I didnt have a great job that I loved, I would do this full-time.

      Hi Lisa:

Thanks so much for your feedback. I have done some freelancing earlier this year but found it really difficult to find long term clients and putting in a lot of marketing time trying to find more -- it just didn't work out the way I wished. My passion is definitely doing Virtual Assistant type work. I love to proofread and recreate materials. I enjoy doing designing work and creating things from someones ideas and giving a great product in the end; I find that most rewarding. But, finding the people that want that kind of work done for the price I could accept is the difficult part.

I am always open to ideas and I would love to talk with you further to get some possible work rolling around.

      Thanks!!
      Robin

What are you doing to try and make money? I don't mean the spending and buying, but the action of doing.

I know it works because it worked for me. I MADE it work. I started out ten years ago. I used to buy this and that, looking for something or someone to tell me how to make a living online. I spent more time (and money!) trying to find all the answers. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't made good money. (Good money for me at the time was maybe $500 a month.)

Then one day, about five years ago, it hit me... I wasn't DOING anything. I was buying and reading, searching and reading, downloading and reading... but not ACTING on any of the information in my head. I started acting and doing.

You can do it!! The trick is to stop reading and start acting. If you go and go and see you aren't getting anywhere, make a turn and keep going. Like traveling on the open road, sooner or later you're going to get there. Just keep driving!

    Hope this helps....

Hello to everyone and thank you all for all your great feedback -- you guys and gals are great!!! I received some really great information and I was really impressed with the indepth responses you sent in. Below is a pretty long response but I wanted to take the time to respond to each and every one of you -- I have placed your name (if I had it) or your screen name before the message to you...

      CINDY
I am currently trying to make money by creating domain rich, keyword rich adsense blogs. I do have one main one that I am working on to build up as the main blog. It is the weight loss niche which I know has very high competition but I do have the #1 spot for the keyword "fat fighters" and there are 880 searches a month and for some reason I am only getting 10-15 hits a day.

I have definitely been taking action ... I have learned a ton of stuff and I learned about a year ago that just by reading and watching won't bring the $$$ in ... so Action is what I do -- however it doesn't seem to work for me!! :-(

I do appreciate your help and the time you took to respond. Please keep me in mind if you need anything proofread... that is my speciality!!!

      LITTLEPHOENIX
You are absolutely right -- without traffic nothing is possible!!! That does seem to be my biggest struggle i.e., the missing piece. I have done everything -- backlinking, forums, social networking, article marketing, SEO, you name, I have done it!!!

I am all for hearing new ways (if any really exist) or trying new things -- my mind is open to it all!!!

      Thanks for your feedback!!

      DARRYL
Yes, I know you are right ... giving up is the way to fail and I DO NOT plan on failing -- I have been at this far too long, learned way too much and invested more time and money to give up at this point -- I plan to succeed!!!

You hit the nail on the head with it taking time -- and patience is NOT one of my virtues!!! :-) Thanks for your feedback!!!

      RAYLM123

The one thing I really enjoy is creating blogs, websites and turning nothing into something. I have rewritten a few ebooks and proofreads lots of documents -- details are my passion!!! :-)
      Thanks for your help!!

      J-MAC
Wow ... thanks for your detailed suggestions. As I mentioned above, I enjoy creating websites -- so I don't need to find someone to do it for me -- I would love to be the one doing sites for others!! I have heard alot about angela's backlinks but haven't used that service before -- I will check into it. I would absolutely thrilled if I could make $450 a month from one site -- that would almost be enough to cover my rent... I will continue working at my site (which is in my sig line) and hope as time goes on it will start profiting -- thanks for your help!!

      STEVECANE
I know it takes hard work and I and definitely not looking for an easy buck -- I am willing to put into this as much as it takes to get it going. Thanks for your advice!!

      ASUSERVICE
YES FOCUS -- that has been a huge struggle I have started to get accoomplished!!! It really is hard to do.
#4 - yes, fatfighterscorner.com is my website -- I have been working on it for a few months now and it has not brought in one single penny yet!!! I have a grand total of EIGHT on my list!!!

The lightbox that pops up when you first visit my site is actually an ebook that I created -- I originally tried selling it for $37 but didn't get anyone to even sign up -- at least now offering that for free it has put eight people on my list.

I have taken your advice and removed the REVIEW from the front page -- thanks for that feedback!! I will be redoing my blog -- that is something I have been working on.

#5 I love to write -- I do not have a problem with doing that!! As a matter of fact I would love to do it for others!!! :-)

#8 thanks for the link to frank kerns site. I will read that tonight

I have seen The Secret and it is a great model to follow!!! I did find your feedback very useful... I really appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts!!

      DEBRA CONRAD
Any ideas of what the "next big secret" is??? I would love to write about it!!! :-)

      LEELEE
yes, I agree weight loss is a tough niche and I have landed in the #1 spot for a keyword that has 880 searches a month but for some reason I only get about 10 clicks a day... thats only 300 ... not sure why that is. Thanks for your advice about the lightbox poping up on every new page -- I have changed that -- please feel free to visit my site again without seeing the box come up everytime you go to a new page!

      TOM GOODWIN
Thanks for all your advice -- I really appreciate the time you took to respond and give your expertice!! :-)

      MIKE MURPHY
I have answered your questions above and I would more than happy to get started doing article writing, graphic design, WP, SEO, etc if I could find people who needed that service provided. I can't afford to advertise my service in the WF right now but I am always seeking those who need help ... finding them is the problem!!!

      DENNIS CHEESMAN
That is a great idea -- I will definitely try this out. I never really thought I could put something together to sell as my own but your ideas make sense. As I mentioned already, even $40 to sell something on here would be a huge stretch for me but of course if I could sell 50 at $10 the $40 would be a great investment. That is something I will consider (If I do get something together worth selling) :-)

      MAGICMARCUS
Thanks for the link to your 7 Day Blog Profits Software -- I will be heading over there tonight to sign up and attend your webinars.

      RAND
I am not sure why you feel that the site in my sig line has poor keyword search -- I am currently #1 for fat fighters and #5 for fat fighter (singular). I am currently doing SEO for some "lower hanging fruit" and hope to see some results from that soon.

I have fixed the problem with the google adsense ads -- they are showing appropriate ads now -- thanks for pointing that out!! :-) I have also fixed the lightbox issue as well!!

I really appreciate all your feedback. It was very helpful!!!

      TERRY HATFIELD
Thanks for the suggestion for the bottle of pills .. I will check that out -- selling a Fat Fighter product is a great idea!!! I had been viewing them as my competition but your suggestion makes sense!

      KEVIN_HUTTO
I have tried offering my service to palces like Freelance and Odesk but those guys on there work for dirt cheap... I can't compete with them!! If I could find someone who needs a VA or a project manager that would be wonderful -- but finding them is very few and far in between unfortunately. I am willing to do almost anything I need to do to prove myself but working for $2 an hour isn't one of the things!!

      NICOLEBECKETT / EVANLAMBDA / SARDENT / JOSHUAG / ENFUSIA / HOMEWORKIN
I think I have probably answered the questions you asked me above. I have stopped buying things (and unsubscribing those who are selling all those wonderful products from my email). I would be thrilled if I could find someone who wanted to use me as a case study -- I really am open to learning anything and everything I possibly can -- I am determined to be successful at this!!!

Thanks again to everyone... you all really helped me alot!!!!

well, i do not blame you at all, and you are correct, most of the things people sell online is a scheme and although it might give you some info and some "how to's", altimately it comes down to hard work and understanding how things really work online.
Just about anything now days can be searched on google and answers can be found, i do not believe one has to pay for information, at least not in this century...
so what is it that you are looking to do? sell goods online? VAR business online? online publisher?

i can tell you one thing, anything is possible, one can sell pink colored pencils and make a killing, one can simply open n blog and talk about life and generate good income via banner advertising, one can open a youtube channel and make a killing ( as much as $4000 a day ) anything is possible...BUT we have that BUT factor, which is traffic. without traffic, none of this is possible. So one has to understand how the web works, one has to have an understanding of SEO, content writing, meta tags, how search engines grab content, how link popularity works etc.
so tell me what you are trying to accomplish online and i will do my best to help you right here on this thread rather then you purchasing another 'how to" material.

Robin, it sounds like you have found several ways that didn't work for you. I went through the same process, as I'm sure many here have. The key is to never give up. It's ok to get frustrated, everyone does, but never give up.

Keep taking action, even if it's only one thing a day. Over time, the actions you take will pay off.

I discovered many years ago that I am a half-way decent writer. Not the best, not even close to the best, but good enough to be able to sell some of the writing I was doing. I created small 10-15 page sites and flipped them. It worked quite well, but to me was incredibly boring.

I then branched off into affiliate marketing and discovered a lot of different ways to lose more money than I was making. Eventually, after much trial and error, I developed a method that worked for me.

Test, Test, Test, and Test some more until you discover what works for you.

Well said I couldn't agree with you more!
When it comes to business, especially online business, there are so many factors involved that you can never design in advance the perfect plan. Everyone has to walk the path of trial and error until he/she finally discovers the best method for him/herself. The example you gave about finding that writing earned you money but bored you illustrates how important it is for a person to discover what works for them personally.

Hi Robin! It's easy to get caught up in all of the hype. After all, every email and every website promises to have the end-all-be-all-super-product-that-you-can't-afford-to-live-without!

That being said, you're right...most of it is junk. The only products/tools that I have bought are ones that I researched first. There are plenty of people who will host free webinars. You'll get some good information, and, at the end, you'll get to hear about their product. That's how I've found a few products that are actually meaningful (without the hype!)

As far as making money goes, you have to start by thinking about what you WANT to do. Do you want to be an affiliate marketer (if so, what niches interest you)? Start your own business (i.e. providing content or web design services)? Freelance? Pick something that makes YOU happy. Remember, this is going to be your job. Sure, you may get to work at home in your PJ's , but it takes alot of work to succeed on the world wide web. That's why you need to pick an area that you're interested in. If you get bored, your visitors will notice.

Until you figure out which direction you want to go it, I would suggest not buying any more products. Get your own path situated, then see if there are any experts out there who can help you move forward.

      Hi J-Mac

Thanks for sharing your story and congratulations for making the site work for you...i assume, the money its making is totally passive, aey?

Are you referring to this site in your signature (MyVirusRemoval) which is making $450/month?

Can I ask you few questions?

      1) Is it a Wordpress site?
      2) Other than Adsense, do you use any other monetization methods?
      3) How much time do you spend/day on it?
      4) Can I request a link to the software you use for backlinks?
      5) Which keyword tool would you suggest? Any thumbrules for picking profitable keywords? For example no of searches/month should be below XXX...etc?
      6) Your step no. 4 says, put Adsense on top, however on your website you have it in the middle of the content and one on the left?
      7) Can you share some stats? No of visitors, no. of clicks, total no.of backlinks....etc?
      8) Do you "test" your keywords before you decide to setup a website? If yes how?
      9) Since day 1 to now, how many subscribers did you manage to get?
      10) What's your plan for the next 12 months? Add affiliate products etc?

Sorry for the long list of questions, but I would highly appreciate if you can answer these. Thanks in advance.

        • Nope, it was done in PHP by a web design student.
        • At first I launched it using amazon product ads on the left and google adsense on the top and right side. I also put two links at the bottom for a product on clickbank. I thought it would be interesting to experiment with a few different methods. I don't recommend this after running it a bit. Having amazon ads for antivirus products on a "FREE" antivirus site was kinda stupid on my part. Having the clickbank ads buried at the bottom was not a fair assessment of that product either.
        • I backlinked it for 6 months doing angela's packet and that was it. I don't have to do anything to the site but I am planning on updating it to cover windows 7 here in the future.
        • Just look for angela's backlinks. She sells a packet for $5 a month that has 30 pr4 or higher sites where you create a profile and get a backlink. She has afriend named Paul who also does this and sells 50 sites a month for $8. That's $13 a month for 80 pr4 and above links but you have to create them. If you search these forums you can find links to angelas packet.
        • I just use google adwords and I would come out with about 10 possible based on the highest search amount. I then search for each keyword in google and run the top ten sites in yahoo site explorer. If I find anyone in the top ten with less than 500 backlinks, I know I found a winner and can eventually beat them.
        • At the top of the content is what I meant. I ran ads all over the page for 30 days at a time and the banners at the top on the main and the download page always produced 70% of my results. The side ads just were not as effective.
        • Not really, I don't really track the site and am spending any free time on other experiments. I checked in adsense and in September I had 7300 impressions and 698 clicks so I am almost at a 10% click rate. Don't forget that when you have a site like this that solves a problem, people are always looking for a fast solution. I would imagine you could have this high of a click rate on any site that solves a problem like weight loss, stop smoking or get your girlfriend back.
        • The only testing I do is described in 5 above.
        • I don't do subscribers yet. I know the box is at the top but it goes to an email box that I have never checked. I know I am not utilizing this information to the biggest financial gain but I really got into this to have fun, experiment and show some of my students how they can make some extra money to help get them through school.
        • I would like to create a few videos and see if I could sell them with an ad on the right side of the site. I also have ideas for an IT training website that is subscription based and would help people to pass IT certifications. I have about 10 different ideas for affiliate products I found on clickbank that I think I could sell but I don't have the time for all of this.
As far as this site is concerned, I recently picked two new keywords and I am experimenting with purchased backlink packages, where they do all the work. I want to record the actual effectiveness of these packages. I want to buy a few hundred, monitor how long they stay active, record how many actually get indexed over time and then test some methods to get the rest indexed.

        Hope that helps.

          Just my thoughts.

Find a need and fill it.
What do people want or better yet need. Put your offers in front of them filling those needs with the hottest price/offer/value ect... they have ever seen.

Give real value in everything you do, your content and product and your customers will be happy, which in turn means you will be happy.

Stop buying information products. If you do buy anything, pay for something that will generate value by itself, not something "telling you how" to generate value.

Build a website with something substantial, information people actually want to read and not something where you have to beg and plead for traffic just to have them bounce off the page anyway. Build a site on a topic that is not too saturated. Once you have that, find affiliate offers that your audience would be interested in and place them (tastefully and non intrusively) on your site.

It is not quick, its not easy, but if done properly it will make you money.

        I'm just a dude who's in debt.
But I've had success using a variety of methods.

Unfortunately, I've never been interested enough in any of them to scale them up for a full time income.

I'm focused on larger more interesting projects now.

Anyway, dudes who don't know anything about this stuff can make money.
I know because I've done it.

If you want to know how:
        Adsense
        CPA
        WSO's
        Affliate marketing
"blackhat" methods (don't ever do this)

        Adsense is super easy.
        But its also super boring.
It was exciting when I started, but got stale pretty quick
If you find it tolerable its a great place to start.

    Hi Robin,
I feel your pain ... been there done that. I can tell you it does work so don't give up yet. Here's my advice ...

Yes, taking action is a biggie BUT just as important is FOCUS!

My business is (for the most part) a business to business situation. My target market rarely is for anything else. In the 15+ years I have been doing this I have never known a client not to see success (large or small) within four years AS LONG AS THEY REMAINED FOCUSED!!!!! That time is relative to the effort (action) and focus that was put into it.

    #1: STOP BUYING NOW!!!!!!

#2: Decide what you want to do/be (when you grow up lololol) ... pick something you have a passion for that has been with you a large part of your life. Perhaps that's weight loss, dunno!

#3: FOCUS ... stay on track ... DO NOT EVEN LOOK AT ANYTHING THAT IS NOT WITHIN YOUR PASSION!

#4: I see the link in your sig goes to http://fatfighterscorner.com/ ... I assume that's your website, correct?

If it's not ... you might want to do something of your own.

If it is, it appears you're doing (for the most part) affiliate marketing which is fine, BUT you could do so much better with something of your own and roll that to the side for some extra cash. IF you prefer to retain the affiliate marketing start writing articles and posting them to the directories and have your resource box go back to your site.

Kill the review on the main page ... actually, move it deeper into the site and post your own articles. Post often or find related reprint articles to post.

I don't understand why you "Blog" link goes to BlogSpot. Why would you do that if you have a Wordpress setup rolling?????? What would you do is BlogSpot went belly up?

#5 If you don't feel you're a writer you're probably wrong. 90%+ of us can write very well if the topic is something we have a passion for. Use PLR or reprint articles for seed. Your topic is way too popular to not be able to find good articles you can brainstorm with. When writing your own or rewriting others do it in such a way that you're talking to a friend. Be sure to use spell and grammar check.

    #6: FOCUS

#7: Become very active in forums as a reader and contributor. Look around for a guide that I believe is called "Forum Marketing" ... you should be able to find it for free (might have to signup for a newsletter but that's ok) ... if not PM me and I'll see if I can hook you up for free.

Find forums that relate to your niche and become very active!

I can't stress this one enough. You see I was a warrior forum member way way back! Long before the current forum was more than a part of Allen's wish list. I can say without a doubt that I made it because of my contacts here. But remember ... this is an IM forum and unless your niche is IM related you'll only do so much.

    #8: Read this ... http://frankkern.com/?p=31

#9: I highly recommend "The Secret" ... if you haven't read it or seen the DVD go to Amazon and get it. I know I said quit spending money but this is an exception.

    #10: Did I say FOCUS?!?!?!?

There ya' go .... THAT'S the secret to success in business, life and so much more! I hope you find this useful.

Weight loss is a tough nut to crack. You really need to be able to find less competitive keywords to try to rank for. Big niches are not impossible to get your little slice of the pie but they do take some skill to conquer. And that is just your on page SEO. You don't mention what kind of marketing you are doing. Article marketing is free. Slow, but free. Same with forum marketing.

I was interested in your site and wanted to look at various posts but everytime I selected a new page I got hit with your pop over or whatever those things are called. It was really irritating and I wound up leaving without seeing as much as I would have otherwise.

I think your title pretty much sums up the problem as I see it

Too many people are looking for a product, or ebook, or strategy to make them money. If you look at the WSO section now, the vast majority are selling dreams, that for the vast majority of buyers will never come true.

In my view, there are a few basic ways to make money in IM:

    (1) put up some articles on the big article directories, and look to sell affiliate products, and get traffic through, either, or both, of (1) internal article directory traffic, or search engine google (namely Google). I know a lot of folks on here do this and it works well for them. For me, I prefer to have pretty much all my own money pages on domains that I own rather than others' sites, so i namely do #2.

    (2) put up some keyword optimized content on one or more domains that you own, and rank those optimized pages in Google and the other search engines. this is my preferred method at the moment. I prefer to build up my own domains that I can just monetize or flip later.

    (3) PPC. Pretty self-explanatory. It just isn't for me, but I know alot of others do well with it.

There are of course 1000s of other ways to make money online, wiith "facebook cash", and "twitter cash", flipping domains, and blah blah blah. You can also of course put up your own products here at WF (or other IM forums) for sale, such as in the wSO subforum.

BUT....I think the vast majority of the people that fail to make an appreciable income online keep on straying away from the basics. They are looking for the next big, and no doubt the "How I made $4329 last week on Twitter" WSOs probably jump and call out to them, unfortunately.

So, my advice is to focus on one of the "big 3", and milk it for all its got, learn all you can and master it. At least to the level of where it is a very nice some (semi) recurring monthly income. Until you've done that, I would put blinders on and stay away from any of the other offers. Basically..You don't need more WSOs to teach you the secrets of making solid money from the big 3, you just need focus (which seems to be harder and harder to come by these days). If you are going to spend money, spend it on something tangible. Spend it on buying new domain(s). Spend it on outsourcing content if you need to. Spend it on software. Stop spending it on make money ebooks.

    What are your strengths?

Do you have some skills that could be marketed as a service?

If you're excellent at writing, graphic design, Wordpress, SEO etc. you could get a nice start providing these services to others.

Help others alleviate a problem THEY have and your will go away as well.

    1) Stop spending money.
    2) Sit down and write out your plan. Use Outline form and flesh it out where you are not clear on what you want to do, or think you are supposed to do.
3)There are people out there that can help in areas where you are weak. Ask for it. Be specific. This is where the outline helps.

Instead of selling the next big "secret" as a product... try writing the "next big secret" as a report and selling it to those who will make money with it.

Go to clickbank, look through the categories and see if something sparks your interest, look to see what is hot and selling in each category..

Write down a few of the sites that are hot see what they are selling, take the main keyword and start doing some searches in google like "keyword+forum" and "how to keyword".

See what people are REALLY interested in then think to your self can I create something that people will want to buy? Is these wondering people buy ready? Are they looking for a solution to heir problem?

If so then go with it.. if not then start over..

If so then head over to scriptlance.com or freelancer.com and open an account, once in post a project for a content writer, you will have to base what quality you get depending on your money situation. But you can get good reasearch for a reasonable price, let them do the grunt work in researching and putting it all together, get 10 articles, and a ten page report.

Once you get it go over it and make sure it is not copywrited material.

Now there are several things you can do..

I suggest you come here and post a wso for the plr to the product, charge anywhere from $10 to $15 for the FULL PLR to the content.

Offer a limit on it such as 50 to 100 ONLY.

It will cost you $40.00 to run but if you get 50 buyers that comes out to $500 or $750 - the $40 and what it costed to create it..

Repeat.. keep doing this until you become an expert at it.. Think of other things to do as well, you can make a full time living off the WSO section alone..

You can also build a site around the content, and offer the 10 page report to get subscribers.. build traffic to it and then either keep it or sale it..

    Hope this helps some..

    regards,
    Dennis

No... nothing works... no one makes money online and no one is buying stuff online.

its kindof a sarcastic answer but really puts things in perspective... lots of things work - lots of people make money... right now millions of people are online and someone is making money... so find out what they are doing and do it better :-)

Anything that promises you thousands of dollars a month on autopilot, with almost no effort is definitely hype, so yeah, don't fall into that trap. Most of the "get on the first page of Google" promises, are just the same basic strategies, there is no magic solution. You need to put in the work.

Based on the site in your sig, your problem is from poor keyword and competition research before getting started, poor SEO optimization, not providing good quality content, and focusing too hard to sell to people that are looking for information.

Please take this as constructive critique, I'm not trying to offend. You currently rank #1 in google for that name "fat fighters", but that's not really what most people search for. You are nowhere to be seen for things like weight loss, or diet plans. This can, of course, be overcome with SEO strategies, but diet and weight loss is a extremely competitive niche, so it won't be easy. It will be a long uphill battle. You really need to go back to your keyword research and try for some lower hanging fruit.

The bigger problem is the content. You don't really offer any good content. Everything on you site is an attempt to sell. I'm sure that "wedding weight loss" gets a lot of searches, but I doubt any of them are looking for a list of reasons they should lose weight. Weddings are already stressful enough, and I'm sure their weight is already adding to that, which is why they are searching. Do you really think it helps them to confirm their worst fears: their husbands will be ashamed of them, everyone at the reception will notice they are fat, and it will be permanently captured in the wedding pictures? Many people will still be overweight even after pre-wedding diet and exercise. The last thing they need on their big day, is your list floating around in their head. Can you even guarantee that what you are trying to sell them will even work? Provide a solution, don't provide the problem.

The thing is, you don't provide any solution at all, just a link (to a broken site, by the way). Take a look at the top sites for your keywords and see what they are doing. Some have really good free content, with diet tips and exercise plans, and subtle monetizing options. Some are really elaborate sales pages, selling quality products. People are quickly getting tired of the cheesy sales pages. You either need to go all out, and create a really outstanding sales page for an outstanding product, or create good free content that will keep your visitors on your site. If your content is good, but leaves them wanting more, they may click the ad on your site.

Speaking of which, you have 3 banner ads at the top of the pages that are completely unrelated to your niche. They are hosted by Google, so either you set something up incorrectly, or your on-page SEO is even worse than I thought, and Google has no idea what your site is about. I would also go with the text based ads rather than the banners.

One last thing. I know that pop-up opt-in forms are all the rage, but when someone closes the opt-in, it should stay closed, for the whole day, or at least the session. When it pops up every time you you visit another page, that is a good way to drive people away.

My advice is to always put yourself in the place of your visitors, and ask your self if your site is what you would want to find when searching on those keywords. There are two main things to concern yourself with, traffic and conversion. You can't convert sale or opt-ins without traffic, and all the traffic in the world won't help, if your site doesn't convert to sales/list. The first thing you need to figure out, right now, is which is the bigger problem, traffic or conversion. Then try to figure out what the cause is, and work on that first.

I noticed the site in your sig is ranking number 6 for the term "fat fighter" which gets like 880 searches a month.

When I did the search, I see a bottle of pills called fat fighter in the shopping results picture. Did you try and sell those?

On your site you are trying to sell the diet solution ebook. I would switch it to the fat fighter product and continue to build more back links to get a higher position in the search results for the term fat fighter.

Most of your backlinks anchor text for the site in your sig are for "fat fighter". If you want to sell the diet solution ebook you should optimize your page for that term and get backlinks with diet solution as the anchor text.

    Hope this helps,
    Terry

Yes, there are many business models that work. When I started out I was completely broke and desperate for money. I was married to someone who thought that his job was to play video games while I brought in the money. So, like most people, I started trying anything I could think of to bring in money online.

I was successful with several projects, but I saw a lot more success when I cut back on how many irons I had in the fire.

Sit down and take stock of what you know or have already purchased (so you could know if you used it instead of buying more). Then make a list of 4-5 possible business models. Note that a business model is not a single task, like bringing in traffic or building a list. The business model is how you plan to make money from start to finish.

For instance, these are some common internet marketing business models that I have used:

    * Micro Niche sites that bring in cash from CPA, Adsense, affiliate sales, etc.
    * Creating a product and building a blog and email list around it - then marketing to your list while giving them what they really want in terms of information
    * Creating a retail site and selling *gasp* physical products and dropshipping as well
    * Flipping sites. Creating sites, making them profitable and selling or selling new sites that are set up to make money

Then, think about what your strengths are and what you want out of your business. Money is not the only thing to consider. Where a lot of internet marketers run into frustration is trying to guess where they will make the most money. This is backwards. You will make the most money at what you are best at doing. For instance, I am great at selling retail products on some of my sites - but it is not what I want to be doing in five years since I have to spend so much time shipping. So, those sites have been or will be sold. (Flipping online retail is lucrative too, just so ya know!)

If you enjoy learning and sharing information, building a business around a product is a great way to go. If you hate dealing with emails from fans/customers/inquirers and you don't want to have to keep up a blog - then this might not be your best business model.

Then, focus on just that one thing. No new products unless they are truly missing pieces of the puzzle you are working on at that moment. Become really, really good at that one thing.

You'll find doors opening and money flowing because your attention is all in one place (and the gurus won't be sucking your wallet dry!).

Robin this is just a thought but why not combine these... take all of the money making material that you've purchased over the years, sort through it all, kill all of the hype and develop your own IM products to sell. If your passion is creating things from someone's ideas then take what you have and create something new that will help people make money on line... Invent the BETTER mousetrap!

Thanks... this is a great idea and you have inspired me (along with all the other WF members) to make my own product. I have never really thought I had enough knowledge in one topic to make this happen but putting all the topics together into one may work out great!! And reading all the encouraging words from everyone and then reading your suggestion really has my mind going!! I will be doing some major digging this week end and review what I already have and make it into a "never seen before" product" with my own twist!!

Thanks again to everyone... you gals and guys are terrific!!!

My suggestion and what has worked for me is to provide a service. It's not as glamorous as making passive income online (doing the work once and getting paid over and over) but it works.
I have been providing my customer service skills to a big internet guru online now for almost a year by working in his support desk and that is how I make money online.
Yes it is like a regular JOB but it pays the bills and I work on my own business on the side. Right now I am starting up a PLR store and hoping to make money selling PLR content to marketers.
I tried creating my own product and selling it on ClickBank but it hasn't been selling so I changed my tactics and decided to start a business providing products for marketers.
All you have to do to start working for a big internet guru is to contact them via their website or support desk and tell them what your skills are and how you can help them.
9 times out of 10 the gurus are looking for outsourced help and will hire you.
If you are not sure about your skills, try starting out by helping in their support desk. It is a very easy job once you get to know their products and it makes you feel good to help people.
Hope this helped in some way.

          Hi Robin,

Your original post touches many emotions within all of us, in other words we have all felt that way at one time or another.

There are many great suggestions here, which represent many different avenues to reach success. Some do it with SEO, others with their list, and some provide products and services, and 1000 other ways.

There's no one size fits all solution. However, you've probably learned a great deal and you can turn around and use that education you now have to create your own product or content.

Once you have content, you can get traffic, once you get traffic you can monetize it.

On the expense side, as a rule of thumb, only spend money on a tool or resource that will save you time and, in essence, pay for itself. And, don't spend money on "how to" do things online.

There aren't really any "secrets" out there, unless you consider hard work and creativity a secret.

I'm no expert, but I could feel your frustration, and I wanted to let you know you were not alone.

          You can do it!

          Best wishes.

I made some income online from pretty much the first few weeks.

I think there was a simple reason for that...when I started out I had NO money to spend on anything so I HAD to make an income.

Also about 12 months in I had to start making a full time living doing this and again I had no money to spend.

          My tips would be:

          # The most reliable way to make money when you're starting out is to get good at ONE skill and sell your services to others. And charge at least 50% upfront for any service you sell.

          # If you're buying information products and you're seeing "rehashed" information" then you already have way more knowledge than you need to make money online.

Stop buying products and start focusing on taking persistent consistent action in one area till you see results. Do more of what's working...less of what's not working.

          # Generally speaking when you're starting out avoid all the schemes and methods that involve you putting out or risking money to do them.

When you're already making money you can experiment with these methods using profits you've already made.

          # Generally speaking if you're not making money it's because you keep changing from one idea to the next or you're not taking action. Focus on doing ONE thing and doing it well.

As I said at the start of this post selling your services in some way is the most reliable way to go from 0 income to a steady income with no risk.

          Kindest regards,
          Andrew Cavanagh

I totally understand what you're talking about, I think we've all been there! Here are some of the most important things you gotta take in consideration before you join any program, and that is: Can you duplicate it! In other words are you going to have to build a team the size of a basketball arena, or the size of a class room? Second we all get hyped about the money This is where you need to do your research. Is the compensation plans a fast start bonus, one time payments, built on a forced matrix, or residual income. If you want to make the money fast, do the first two, forced matrix is based on what and who you bring in actually do. If you didn't know, residual income is where you make the most money!!! This is income that you get every month!! No fast track bonus, one time payments ect. This is money that you get every month after month in you pocket. Lastly ask yourself this: Can you see it, believe it, and achieve it? If you can't how can you expect your prospects to do the same.

            It definitely work.

If IM is too competitive for you, find a niche.

Online Marketing is just a channel of marketing.

You are ultimately running a business.

Every single dollar and cent that I have earned in the past /can't even remember how many/ years comes from Internet marketing.

    This is what I do:
    1. Being so super smart I come up with 300 brilliant ideas per minute
    2. Out of these 300 brilliant ideas, a really tiny percentage will turn into projects
    3. Out of the 10-15 projects that I actually develop only 1 (ONE) will become a success and the rest will fail (although I don't count them as failure)

... and then I pretty much rinse and repeat.

As for making couple of hundred per week - write articles or product reviews and even if you spend 2-3 hours per day doing just that, you should be able to earn $100+ easily per week.

I think there are lots of things that really work on IM. Look at how many gurus we have on WF members.

Find what you really like doing, focus on it. I chose article writing and it's paying off.

And you're right, there's a lot of trash out there for sale by people trying to making money off of you and I. WF is the best resources for just about anything you need to know regarding online marketing... and its mostly for free!

      Good luck.

    Robin,

2 things I've tried that have worked really well for me:

    1) building sniper sites (niche targeted affiliate sites)

    2) Building a list in the IM niche and making money from them..

I would suggest if you wanna start off from scratch again, do the latter. It always works if you build a great relationship with them and that isn't too hard at all- just offer great content and share awesome strategies.

You can then start making money from promoting affiliate products to them (even if there are no bonuses, tons of people still buy!! Serious.), and even better, crreating your product and making money from it!

    Hope this helps

    Dear Robin,

I am an ebook junkie too, it is addictive.

Over the years this is something I learn about IM: "you don't need to know everything in order to make money".

I have since scaled down my "addiction" and did a personal inventory on where my interest lies in and what methods showed some results for me.

I have since focused my energies on what worked and my online income has doubled the last half year while keeping my expenses down. And is still increasing month to month.

The myth about IM for me is that "it doesn't take alot of work and things about being automated" the truth I found is that a business is still a business, and it has to run like a business. Once you reach the economies of scale you can then scale things up, plan and rework things such that it is more systematize and easier to manage.

Wishing you the best of luck.

      Well Robin,

I was lucky. I didn't get pulled into the hype and can only imagine how easy that is to do. Also how frustrating it would be when it didn't work.

I had the benefit of a process and a list of researched, finely pruned keywords. I also had a way to check to make sure each one of my pages were perfectly built. I had reinforcement that I was on the right track when I really was, and real help when I wasn't.

I didn't jump from one thing to another (although, looking back, I understand the urge - you want it to happen faster, for sure). I kept going in the right direction, little by little and one day, it all came together. Now it just keeps growing on it's own.

I'll give you two guesses as to my "secret" (lol), but aside from that, I contributed hard work, focus, and persistence.

    Hey Robin,
I would like to share with you what works for me during the past one month.

I have been doing Internet marketing for 3 years and no results.

This year on 29th June, I signed up to a mentoring program.

Before I signed up, I made my decision that I will do whatever it takes to succeed in this program.

I started to attend the webinars and implement the strategies taught.

I completed my assignments and tasks given to me.

And on 29th Aug 2010, I completed setting up my marketing system, successfully wrote my salescopy, created my own products and gained approval from Clickbank as a vendor. Tested my squeeze page and everything is good to go.

I started to build my list.

And as of today 8th October, just over one month, I build a list of 2500 subscribers and growing and made $1000 in profit selling my own products.

This is what works for me.

    Hope it helps,
    Winson

I have to agree with the others when they say never give up on ideas. Thomas Edison said "We now know a thousand ways not to build a light bulb."

You just have to sit down and think of a strategy to make money and test it out. If it fails trace it down and try to tweek it to work better or just sit down and build another strategy.

I've always found that people buy things because it solves an issue that they currently are having.

      Tums - heartburn
      Cell phone - communication
Computer - more productivitiy, entertainment, etc

      How I make money?

Solve problems....they are around every corner whether you are looking at them or not is up to you.

Also remember that there are more ways to solve a problem than one.

find a problem and find the solution to that problem, then research that solution to dig up as many different solutions *prodcuts* as you can and either promote similar products or create the solution for yourself in the form of digital product and sell it.

The key is to TAKE ACTION...start tossing ideas against the wall and see which ones stick and which ones fail. You will fail....and fail a lot but that's part of the process....trick is not to dwell to much on the failure but to find out why it failed and either fix it or more on to another idea.

      Best of Luck!!!

Is most of what you buy actually "hype" or is it that you don't DO anything with 98% of what you buy?

The thing that REALLY works is taking action. I dare say that if you actually and fully implement that 98%, 50% of it will make you some money!

My biggest suggestion is to make your own products, of what you know, it dosn't have to be to " get rich online" but everyone has skills, whats yours?

The information you have in your head, that you personally think is just useless information, could be valuable to others.

I don't know your interests, but maybe you know about collecting, construction, web design etc the sky is the limit.

whats your interest, whats your niche?

when you figure that out, your 50% of the way to making money online.

then use that information, to help others, and yourself.

There really is no other place on the net that you can find such helpful and caring people. I am so impressed with all the suggestions you guys and gals have provided for me and others that have found your feedback useful.

You all have been so very helpful and given me such great ideas and I have started working on a project and plan to bring it to you first for your feedback. Of course this is going to take me a while but you will know when it is done :-)

Right now the thing I would just like to know is, is there any company out there that can really generate traffic into sales? The traffic part is what I am really struggling with. I just can't seem to figure out the trick to getting people to buy!!! I have 21 websites up and running and they all get 30-50 clicks a day on average but I have not received one single sale!!!!

I would love to hear your feedback on that topic!! I am doing article marketing, SEO and backlinking currently -- again, getting the traffic to the sites does not seem to be the problem -- just not sure why they aren't converting!! :-(

    Thanks a ton!!!

Thanks for sharing about your present situation, Robin. I know that there is nothing more frustrating than to see traffic and clicks, but absolutely no sales. If I go by the assumption that the traffic coming to your site is targeted, i.e. you're picking the right 'buying' keywords, then the only conclusion that I can logically arrive at is that your websites are not converting well (in turning visitors to buyers), and they need to be tweaked.

Here are some things to consider:
Examine your landing pages and your websites - are you using an autoresponder to capture emails? Do you have a specific squeeze page on your sites that builds your email list? Is there a clear call to action on your websites? How are you monetizing those websites? Are you showing your visitors relevant offers/products to buy?

        Hi Paul:

Thanks for your feedback. If you have a few minutes, I would love to get your feedback on my main website at Fat Fighters Corner.

I do have a lightbox that pops up a few seconds after arriving at the site -- I have only received 12 people on that list in the past two weeks and I have 12-15 people visiting the site every day.

As far as the other website I have up, they are just sites that a service I am paying for put up -- I really don't have any control over the content other than price... here is one of them so you can see what I am referring to ... Total Acne Treatments. These sites are getting 40-50 visitors a day for the past 12 days and I have not received on single sale. But like I said, I can't make any type of changes to them :-( I am thinking of dropping that service...

        Thanks for your help!!

          Robin,

Here's your problem. Your fat fighter site is only ranking for "Fat fighters" and #1 at that, but here's the thing, it is not a lucrative keyword and gets no traffic. You are not ranking for any weight loss keyword (that can convert into sales).

You have a problem with duplicate content on your site, and that is likely the reason why you are not ranking for any terms other than "fat fighters."

You have 195 results in Google for your domain but not ranking for anything, which goes to show that most of your content has been labeled as dupe content by Google. Otherwise, you would surely be ranking for long tail keywords by now.

If you want to get traffic for your site, you need to have good, original content on weight loss. Copy pasting or scraping the content from other sites is not going to work well with Google; besides many are doing exactly this elsewhere, so there are tons of dupe content that Google filters everyday.

Also, making a site that looks too salesy may not work for many because generally, people do not like being sold to. If you write quality stuff that actually helps people with their weight loss issues, you would have gotten better results by now, with the tons of posts you have.

No short cut ways to success, I'm afraid. I'd suggest revamping your site and maybe deleting most of the posts and start putting out stuff that would appeal to people looking for weight loss answers. (or at least, do a rewrite of your product reviews in your own words, but not sure how convinced people will be with this). At any rate, this will better please both Google and people alike.

PS: It helps to check out other successful weight loss blogs and watch how they do it

Dellco: Thank you so much for your honest comments... I really appreciate them. You are right on the money with everything you said that I am doing. I have set up the posts using Auto Blog Samurai and it is pulling posts from YT, EA, and a couple of other sites. Recently, I have read that duplicate content is only when you write something yourself and use it in on the same site more than once ... I guess I am still confused about that after reading your post.

Can you explain this a little more to me? You said:
You have 195 results in Google for your domain but not ranking for anything, which goes to show that most of your content has been labeled as dupe content by Google. Otherwise, you would surely be ranking for long tail keywords by now.

As far as the review though, that is in fact really mine. I have really bought used The Diet Solution and been successful with it. I did however, use the format of someone elses but I completely rewrote it and is 100% in my own words and experience.

I will use your suggestions and revamp my site. I am defintely looking for feedback to make this site successful. The one part I am confused with -- the fatfighter keyword is showing 1900 local (2900 global) searches with only getting at the most 10 visitors a day.

Also, you mention to check out other weight loss blog and see how they do it but how can I tell that what they are doing is working for them?

Again, thanks a ton for this information you provided!!! :-)

entrepreneurjay, believe me, I know there are no such things as a money trees or magic pills -- and I am in no way looking for them. I just want to find out the right way to make money online even with hard work!! I definitely am not looking for someone to do it for me and I don't have a problem with doing whatever I need to do to make it work... I just want to find what works best.

      Thanks for your feedback.

My rule of thumb is that pretty much everything works! The defining factor is to what degree, ultimately you either make more then you spend or not. Efficiency plays a key a role since this is more of a process where all the pieces must work individually as well as together.

A huge obstacle I continuously run into is production value... to race in NASCAR with any possibilities of winning, you're going to need a car to spec. Many people race head on to compete in very complex environments without the commitment and resources it takes to make it happen. Make no mistake about it, it's a competition.

Choose your fields wisely analyze the competition, these are the folks you will be competing with.

Ultimately I would have to say the key factor to making something work is listen, listen, listen... There are many opportunities out there, identify possibilities and creating a product to meet those needs have been my bread & butter for quite some time now.

In closing, it's about doing, finding and if everything is lining up, having a good time while making some dough. Good luck on your adventures! may you find what you need.

  • Robin,

    Here's my startup story...

Basically, I immediately took these steps 1 month after checking out of the hospital where I stayed for a full month, permanently totally blind by then:

    1. Find something to do like tasks doable by someone who's totally blind. I found this software here used by totally blind and vision-impaired people to use the computer, software and the Internet.

    2. Find something I can do with my software like an opportunity to earn income by completing tasks doable by people in my condition. When I still had eyesight, I assembled computers to resell at a higher price, using the buyer's downpayment to buy the parts and accessories, and also offered my software installation and troubleshooting services as well as my photo editing and graphics design services to our neighbors, their neighbors and friends, our friends, their friends and colleagues, etc. I decided to try and assemble computers while totally blind. While testing it out, my wife helped me out, so she learned how to do it. We marketed computers for about 2 months, with sales amounting to $400/month of net profits. We survived with our then 7-month old daughter, but sales dwindled the following month, so I decided to try and find something else to do, something that's more stable since I didn't have the capital to invest in the computer assembly and sales business and make it more stable than just the word-of-the-mouth campaigns we're doing.

    3. I heard about outsourced medical transcription and a computer school for the blind in our country offering a training program with the promise of instant employment after the 3-month course. Having no money, I decided to talk to the school administrators and exchange whatever it is they need done with the training course. They needed a Web developer for their website. Not Web design, just HTML and a bit of PHP and database configuration and management. On top of the training course, I'll be paid $1 per hour to do this. My wife took a $200/month job as an accountant of a company in the garments industry. Problem was: I didn't know HTML, PHP and database configuration and management. Nevertheless, I told them I can do it and start the following week. They agreed. In one week, I learned HTML, PHP and database configuration and management on my own by reading about useful and relevant content on various websites. I started working on their website, stopping for the daily 4-hour medical transcription course in the next room. After 5 days of the medical transcription training session, I quickly realized their trainors were not equipped with knowledge and skills which can actually help blind people to learn relevant things and start working as medical transcriptionists. They weren't even capable of properly using necessary software programs with our screenreaders. I decided to stay though, for the Web developer post. Also, after I completed the changes and improvements on their website for 2 months, they told me their staff will now take over website maintenance. I was out of the job. They then informed me that my last month's wages will be deducted for paying the medical transcription course fees. I told them I won't be pushing through with the medical transcription training course. They told me the full tuition fees will still be deducted from my wages last month. I took off, not taking what's left of my wages last month, since they were making excuses to delay it anyway. I started looking for another opportunity about a month or so, with me and my family surviving on my wife's $200/month salary and with the help of my mother, father and in-laws. I also heard news that the website I developed for the school won the most accessible website in southeast Asia, but no notification from the school administrators -- notification came from the person who awarded the certificate, who was also my Irish friend and technology consultant of the Taiwanese government at that time, whom I met at the school and he is still a good friend of ours.

    4. I heard about Resources for the Blind, Philippines. They were giving away "pay-whenever-you-can" loans for the licensed version of my screenreader. I used the trial version at home, so it had a 40-minute restriction upon every boot. Their only requirement was for the blind person to go through their 1-week pre-employment training course where, upon completing the course, they will send our CVs to prospective employers. Cool requirement, so I agreed.

    5. After the training course, I was called for an interview and an exam at an outsourcing company looking for English content writers. I reckon I could write because I had been writing from grade school to college and was mostly exposed to English media materials like comic books, books, movies, TV shows, native English speakers whom were my parent's regular visitors for their global political activism work anyway since preschool (that's why my name's "Marx"). I passed and started working the next day. I was paid $200/month for 4000++ words of unique, high quality content per day, 20 days per month. I learned about Internet marketing because our clients were Internet marketers and Web marketing departments of corporations abroad. This was April 2005.

    6. After 2 weeks, I quickly learned that more work = more money, so I talked to my boss and convinced him to allow me to work at home so I can accommodate an additional full time shift. I didn't need an editor anyway and was required to send my daily work directly to my boss. He agreed.

    7. I then quickly learned that working smarter = more money, so after 2 months, I convinced my boss I could outsource to my friends and college buddies and do task delegation as well as Q/A work on their output, and I asked for another full time shift. Then, an additional full time shift after a week and another one after another week. I have 5 full time shifts and was earning $1000/month for a combined daily quota of 20000++ words, of which I outsourced 10000++ words of work to my friends and college buddies who can also write and paid them a collective amount of $225/month because I was doing task delegation work, training them daily and editing their tasks to send them comments as well as to ensure the quality of their content. I was then earning $775/month of net profits while working 12 hours/day, 5 days/week.

    8. I quickly learned that working much smarter = much more money, so I decided to find my own clients and write for other websites while outsourcing all 20000++ words of work and task delegation as well as Q/A work to others. I paid them all $525/month, so I was earning $475/month with 2 hours worth of work per day, 5 days per week, 20 days per month. I then used 10 hours of my time to write content for write4euros.com and for the customers of constant-content.com. I also cold contacted various corporations in the ICT industry because my boss didn't accept technology-related writing work.

    9. I landed 3 global corporate clients and 2 US and EU-based small to mid-scale business clients who needed high value technology-related content writing work at lower rates. They need technology-based content because the corporate clients include a system security development firm and an affiliate marketing firm with software development companies as their merchants while the business clients are affiliates and merchants of the affiliate marketing firm. I worked for them all in a month. I worked 16 hours per day, 6 days per week and another 2 hours per day, 5 days per week for my boss. I then asked my wife, Cherry, to study the existing processes and systems, and asked her to manage the work for my boss. We were earning $3000/month of net profits from our 3 corporate clients, $1200/month of net profits from our 2 business clients and $475/month from my boss, for a total of $4675/month of net profits.

    10. I registered what we're doing as a sole proprietor business in September 2006. Our existing clients at that time requested us to find qualified people to do more technology-related content writing work, train them, develop a task delegation/Q\A/task submission/client invoicing system for them and manage them. They offered slightly lower rates because they needed a lot of people. We started with 2 colleagues for a week. We then had to find 40 people, which we did over a span of 2 weeks, and we established an office site, because we were working at home back then, since we had money to do this at that time, and continued growing the company until we ended up with 90 colleagues after 3 months. No website. No backlinks. No PayPal ID.

    11. Business growth and expansion. Our clients referred us to their colleagues in their networks. I set up a blog for the company. I went ahead and got a PayPal ID. I learned other tasks and important aspects of Internet marketing. I learned SEO and SEM. I learned about Google PR. I learned about backlinks. I learned to develop other content types, not just written content. I learned about dofollow and nofollow. I learned about online softsell marketing. I learned about copywriting. I learned about online content syndication and online content marketing campaigns. I learned about traffic generation. I learned more about HTML and CSS. I learned more about PHP software programming. I learned formulating and developing training methodologies so I can teach people to do all these things so I can duplicate myself. I also learned from mistakes by formulating better workflow processes and systems then implementing them properly. I learned about establishing yourself as a friendly expert source of useful and relevant info, advice, products and services so real people can benefit greatly from your offers. I learned about developing beneficial professional relationships with clients, potential clients, my colleagues and job seekers. Now, we have manpower resources worth 120 colleagues of ours, 2 Manila-based offices and 9 provincial offices in the Philippines.

This works for me. Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Marx

Hi, Im new to this too, although I know about keywords, links, writing articles etc. My big problem is my niche, I don't have one. How do you get one? Can I market someone else's niche I'm basically piggybacking off an affiliate marketing place, have advertised it everywhere, 'I've spent hours surfing, have made $18 in two weeks, but after reading some of the threads on warrior, I'm not even sure if it will get paid.
All your comments are very interesting. I have said to myself "I will not sign up to any marketing scams and pay money, if I can't do this on my own, then I can't do this".

Jmac's method is quite similar to mine. But instead of using Angela's, i jiggle the web...
it's what put my site in google top 3 for the keywords "facial cleanser"

Some warriors say Jiggling is basically the short cut to RD's Perpetual Traffic ( i believe people paid as much as $1K for this course...?) Not sure if that's quite true or not..but this site help my blog get to top 3.

Sorry I don't have more concrete information for you so all I can say is keep trying and no matter what never ever quit. I not saying throw your money into everything that's out there, I saying keep your head up and keep trying because the race is guaranteed to the fastest runner, but he who keeps on running.

People have given some great advice here!

For me and some others who have posted it is finding what interest you!

I love design, I love putting sites together, I am a techie and I am good at it. I also do computer forensics. So I offer these services to offline businesses.

I do this for money and I also do this as a barter for goods and services. I started out bartering and this is what got me my name recognition in the field. People were very willing to barter for my work and refer me when I first got into the industry. I even bartered for a whole house remodel!

Now, I am ready to expand LOL...into affiliate marketing, and website flipping etc.

I have been doing this since 1999 and I did spend my time buying things I did not need, never used and like everyone else did not apply. I never stopped learning and I learn something every single day.
I have always been determined that I would make it no matter what anyone else told me.
Now, I may not be as successful as some here, but I am successful by my standards and I will always strive to improve on that.

Being here is a wonderful start and you have so much information and help you are already a success! Just keep learning and improving on what you know and in no time at all you will be farther than you realize!

      All the best!!!

I have discovered from experience that if something is not working for me, it simply shows that there's a secret that I have not uncovered. So, I sit down and analyze the situation very well, that is, critically.

What is not working for you, most times, is working for someone else. So, don't pass the buck, just sit down and ask yourself your questions.

You're struggling this bad for one reason and one reason only.

You're not building your list and you're not sending emails.

There's a reason why they say "the money's in the list."

Some of us struggle for years without building one... including myself.

When I started building a list, I started making money.

When you say all the products you've bought are crap, I bet somewhere inside them it told you to build a list... but you failed to truly give it a shot.

Here's you: I'm going to make money by creating keyword rich adsense blogs. I'm just going to create a bunch of websites and make some money because I love creating websites. The products I buy stink though... even though I never do what they say.

Sounds like you're not yet ready to truly follow anyone else's proven path. You want to make your own path. Just don't expect to grow a real business until you empty your cup and really go the beaten path instead of your own.

What you have is a fun hobby, not a business with lists of customers and prospects. Just building some websites is not growing a real business.

This is some special advice and I would take notice of jason.

He hit it on the head.....I was too struggling online but once I started builing a list and studying and sending email like frank kern i.e. short and sweet and here is the god damn link.....well I started making money.

So yes the money is in the list, but if you give them cool stuff, and act like their friend and not like some idiot that keeps spamming them, watch how much money will come in.

If people just did this, even half brained they would see results. I mean why would every good marketer out there say to build your list if it didnt work. SO I would say do that.

If you want more optins go the way of :-
      article marketing
      blog commenting
      solo ads
      PPC
      forums

that has been working for years for us, and it will continue to work for many more years to come. I guess there will be only 1% of people reading this really cool stuff in here and acting on it. So I am sure people do not mind giving away valuable stuff like this above. But if you take action, watch your business start to flourish.

    Robin,

I am in the same boat.

I have a great deal of things i have saved up for, bought and only met minimal return on only to give up and move to the next domain. Currently over 120 domains.

The single best thing i have done is join this forum, specifically spend a great deal of time in Internet Marketing Product Reviews & Ratings. I only wish i would of done this years ago.

Now i cant tell you what does work.. but i can tell you what doesnt work. Loosing focus will kill any efforts. Not managing your efforts as a project with deadlines and goals.

With that.. my suggestion is a free resource that you might find helpful that has at least helped me break even on a few personal projects.

    It's really simple....

    1. Stop buying any new training products. I'm willing to bet that you're sitting on top of everything you already need to succeed.

    2. Review what you already have and start testing out those things they show you how to do.

I would start by looking at those training products that have cost you the most amount of money because they're likely to give you the best results when you apply what they teach. You also have the most emotional investment in them.

When you follow the training do "exactly" what you're shown and don't get creative.

    3. Contact the product owner with any questions you have, don't let anything stop you from getting what you need.

    4. Out of everything you have access to something will begin to work for you.

Consistency is critical and not giving up too soon is equally also just as important.

Finally, it will always feel like there's something missing. That's human nature and something clever marketers use to part you with your hard earned cash

The only thing that has really worked for me and has created phenomenal results was getting around like-minded people. You want to hire a coach who is already making money to teach you the tricks of the trade. They know about everything that goes on behind the scenes since they've attended seminars and whatnot. Product creation seems to be very big in generating sales so don't shy away from that. Being an affiliate doesn't always provide the benefits people are claiming.

Here's the plan I have used personally to make 25k from one of my sites, it is easy but you have to learn the basics...

The best way to get started is to focus on list building. Here's a plan in a nutshell...

    1. Select a niche you love.
    2. Create a free report to giveaway for free to your list.
    3. Create a squeeze page.
    4. Drive traffic to your squeeze page.
    5. Build your list and build relationship with them.
    6. Ask your list their most pressing problem
    7. Either create products or promote affiliate products to solve their problems.
    8. Rinse and repeat the above formula.

Forget everything, this is the foundation to start an online business. You can add other systems, tricks, tips and softwares later, but first master the foundation.

Also you have to cultivate your mindset. I would advise you to read 'Think and Grow Rich' and grab an ebook 'The Secret Behind Think and Grow Rich'. These 2 books have impacted my mindset to a solid level. Infact you should read these 2 books first before you start your online business, you will realise why you are failing miserably. a very simple way to make some money online is by creating gigs on fiverr. there are different types of gigs: products and services. Services works really well.

Go there, spend a couple hours, see what kind of services are selling the most, look at the people that are top rated. See what they sell.

SEO services, backlinking works really well. you can write articles for $5 or submit articles to lets say 10 article directories. you can create press releases, submit those. you can create forum profiles on edu sites for examples. these are types of services that work well.

other gigs that work well are graphic related like ecovers, header graphic etc... so if you know photoshop, you can create a gig like that.

Stay away for selling PLR ebooks. it doesn't work. Services work best. that's what people are looking for.

    Hope it helps
