Testing a new site - What do you do?

My membership site is almost ready to launch. I have tested it internally with a few people and we caught several issues and corrected them and now feel pretty much ready to open up for business. But I have some custom functionality built in that is user specific so I'm a bit nervous and think we should test more with some brand new eyes. Is this something usually done with membership (or other) sites? Any suggestions on how to proceed? Is it customary to pay people to test? Any advice is appreciated.

      Do a beta launch. If you have a list, invite some people to test the site in exchange for a free gift, etc.
