I am doing a keynote speech at Wordcamp Detroit this weekend and I am just putting the finishing touches on my talk and I wanted to check in with all my smart friends here @ WF.

Tell me what the best thing about wordpress is for your business?

  • As I already stated on other threads here – all my websites have been set up with Wordpress. In my opinion Wordpress is by far the best platform for setting up a website.
    Here are the reasons why:
[1] It has a large selection of high quality and professionally designed free templates to choose from. Most of the themes are flexible enough for a webmaster to customize the colors and graphics without having to spend extra money on graphic artists.
[2] It is 100% RTL (Arabic and Hebrew) compatible including the administration interface.
[3] You can install on Wordpress a social network plugin called BuddyPress which has almost all the features for adding important features to a business website (forum, membership, chat, etc.).
[4] Wordpress offers an huge choice of different plugins to fit most of your needs, if not all.
To sum it up, Wordpress is the best platform I know for someone who has no knowledge of programming to set up a website.

I have managed to set up several very successful wordpress sites without knowing a skerrick of html. For the non technical person, it's a great way of setting up an attractive and functional site without needing a great deal of knowledge.

Easily edited online - a great asset if you need to change the site remotely or a client wants to edit their own site. No need for you and your client(s) to have the same web design software on your computers if they want to edit.

Editing again - changes can be viewed instantly without having to re-ftp everything.

Those are probably the main 2 reasons I use it.

      I also like:
The ability for others to log-in and change their own areas (brilliant on our village website)

All the rest has been said

        I agree

The big plus about Wordpress is that it's user-friendly both for the professional programmer and for the layman who doesn't know a thing about html. The administration panel, not only makes updating easier and faster, but also has the option for choosing your post editing interface - with or without html tags. Personally, I don't know any programming language but I do know html. In many cases I find it more convenient to change an html tag (color codes etc.) than making the same changes using the regular post editing interface.

The "keynote speech" is awesome! Congrats on being chosen for that privilege.

WP = user friendly, SEO friendly, flexibility friendly, newbie friendly, expert friendly.

You can create a self-building website in a couple of minutes, and then leave it to do it's thing.

With some creativity, you can do most anything you like with it. ... But that doesn't always mean it's easy. And, in fact, it's often a lot harder than it should be. (WordPress still has a LONG way to go.) But it's still usually possible.

I now think of Wordpress as my first option because I've spent so much time tinkering around with it that I feel comfortable with it. And somewhat along those lines, the community of theme and plugin developers give you lots of options.
