Several Blogs under One Domain?

I'm blogging like crazy lately. I think I'm addicted, and I'm constantly exploring the possibilities.

I was just wondering what you blogging experts thought about this idea I just had about running several blogs under one generic domain name. My guess is that it would strengthen the domain as a whole, more than having an independant domain for each niche.

Has anybody tried this tactic with success?

The best way to go is to use sub-domains ie. www.newblog.yoursite.com

Set it up as as subdomain not as an extension to your domain

yourblog.yourgenericdomain.com = Correct
yourgenericdomain.com/yourblog = NO

This is especially true when you are making blogs that are in unrelated niches.
