Google beta-testing new results layout ? this is huge..

If these changes will go live, they'll have a major impact on how the end user searches, clicks, follows and how we should create and market our websites.

All in all, this is about showing a preview of the page that you're about to visualize on mouseover. Imagine how many junk pages will eventually get filtered out due to this, as they'll lose click through rate.

Just imagine all the implications.

    That's a fantastic improvement.

As a searcher I am pleased to see that Google
doesn't stop - they just keep improving.

That new feature could be a good thing as well as a bad thing. Just imaginge the sercher hover over your site and see that it is a sales page and not even click on it because they don't want to buy anything

Sounds like then you'd need to build a better page

And this is bad how? Unless you're getting paid for page views on your sales pages, not getting a click from someone who wouldn't buy anyway seems like a good thing.

It depends how you look at it...

If he's not going to buy anything, then why would
you want him to look at your sales page?

I'd prefer only people who actually WANT to buy to
be visiting my site, don't you?

Finally. I'm tired of searching for something on Google and getting onto a page that's nothing more than a sales pitch disguised as a review or looking for something but can't find it.

If Google will decide to implement this, you'll bet they'll implement it the right way; they don't afford to mess up now when FaceBook and other types of social media are emerging.

Let's think about the implications on marketing. that's what concerns most of us, right ?

    - Click Through Rate will have a greater importance in the overall algorithm.
    - Design + Content will be king.
    - .. add your idea here ..

My bottom line: Content will still be king - people that build quality sites with a perspective view on their business will only gain from this.

Also, no need to try and rank money pages.

You can make far more money ranking your presell pages: blogs, etc. that gives awesome, high quality content that THEN leads people to your money site.

Personally, I like the change. More focus on quality, make it more difficult for the SEO spammers to make money, and genuine content producers to thrive.

I think this will be a great feature and will benefit those that are willing to put in the effort. If a poor site manages to get in the top results the searcher is now more likely to overlook it just from appearance which will benefit the site lower down in the search results. I can think of a couple of keywords where I am outranked by a site that has almost no content.

    Bottom line:

Google has been struggling to rank pages by their value for years now; that's just another step taken towards that direction. People should start to understand that a long term business model means consistency in quality content.

When you get that figured out, you'll notice that from that moment on, Google will be working in your favor - and any other future "slaps" will only hit your competitors' sites and boost yours.
