What Do You Hate Most About Internet Marketing?

This could be anything from building backlinks, keyword research, or maybe you hate all the get-rich-quick-schemes.

Me personally I hate creating backlinks. To me it is mind numbing especially spinning articles.

About the only things I can think of that "hate" might apply to are cheats and frauds.

Things like keyword research, building links, etc. are part of the deal whether you find them fun or "mind numbing". You either do them yourself or you hire someone to do them for you. Either way, they have to get done so there's no sense wasting energy on 'hating' them.

Ditto on this. I really don't mind any of the job otherwise I would be doing something else entirely. BUT what REALLY gets my goat is when I get turned over by a big fat fibber liar cheater fraudster.

It could be something really minor, like getting me to reduce fees to the point where it is basically charity, on the promise of future work but then they change the 'simple job' touted into something much more complex ie. Time EXPENSIVE! Hate that.

The confusion of it all. Someone needs to create an internet marketing crm/cms or something. A way to track all your sites, articles, urls, logins, niches.. blah blah.

Tasks that I don't like doing, I outsource.

What I dislike about the industry is all of the
junky product being created and marketed.
These have always been around, it's just that
there are so many more of them than when I
    came online back in 1996.

I suspect that there is not higher percentage
of these junky products, but that there are
just so many people busily producing them!
These product sentence someone who doesn't
readily recognize bad information to almost
    certain failure.

For me, it is clearly all the hard work that goes into setting up and launching a website. You can easily spend months and hundreds of dollars without seeing a dime until you launch. Luckily, I will be launching my site in 1 week!

I hate the fact that so many people are getting ripped off by people who know absolutely nothing about what they are selling.

I hate it when people promote products they know absolutely nothing about.

I hate it when people give misinformation about how much money they "made".
"I made $20,000 last month." (When you spent $18,000 in click costs to make the 20k.)

I hate the fact that SEO now has a worse reputation than "life insurance."

    I could go on.

I'm a member of many marketing, webmaster, seo, BH boards. I don't post much. I just read and try to learn my trade better.

What I hate is when I (or anybody else for that matter) am her to learn, alot of times I see some petty squabbling in a thread that has a very good topic. It does not promote a positive teaching or learning environment.

This is not to be confused with a nice healthy debate in the issues at hand.

Whew, I hate all the technical crap that goes along with building sites, squeeze pages, etc. I also hate backlinking, article/video submissions, and other tedious, time consuming things.

I LOVE creating new business models, ideas, products, etc.

I've been outsourcing some of the stuff I hate recently, and I'm going to gauge the results after a month. Right now I've only got one employee who's working 15 hours a week doing back-linking, social bookmarks, twitter, and I'm going to be having him do article submission. He's a great guy, and a great worker.

The only problem is budgeting. I work a job waiting tables- and even though the money is decent- it's never quite enough lol.

The great thing about the outsource is it forces me to find priorities.

All this aside, I'd say the biggest complaint I had about internet marketing was the lack of involvement I've felt. Which is why I'm here now. I've never been apart of any small groups, or forums- and I've never had anyone to bounce ideas and questions off of- spare a few very patient product owners and affiliate managers lol.

I'm glad I finally realized I needed to join. I don't know what's been holding me back.

Anyways, my name's Ryan. If you'd like to get a cyber beer and talk internet marketing with me- I'm up for it.

I definitely concur on that! Backlinks and also writing keyword optimized articles can really bore me to tears, I suppose this is why there's such a huge market for such services.

    Hi Unclepennybags,

It most by the time issue. In my opinion, it really does take a lot of time to build your presence at the internet, to get known by others, to get clients and so on.

On top of that, there are all the techinical issues to learn and the times, when the tehnical stuff is making you a hard time.

It consumes a lot of time.

    regards, LASSE

I wonder if this post would have been answered so quickly if the question was 'what do you love about IM?" But I am not hijacking the thread, honestly just curious

The things I have trouble with online are the same as the things I have issues with offline

    - people who can't be honest
    - people who pick an argument for the sake of it
    - people who will tell you one thing and then never follow through
    - products that don't deliver
    - sales pitches that are longer than my screen size
    - and rip off merchants

As you can see any of these would apply offline as well as online (except the screen size)

I hate people refering to successful marketers as "gurus".

Also, deceptive email titles and marketers who say "Only 200 will be sold" when in fact they're selling thousands. Liars basically.

I don't 'hate' anything about this. It's why I am in this industry. There are aspects that are somewhat unpleasant and less enjoyable than others, but between outsourcing and the fact that there is more than one way to skin a cat so to speak, there isn't too much not to like that can't at least be partially circumvented.

That said, if I were to 'hate' one thing, it would be the fact that the behavior of a few unscrupulous people makes it much more difficult to be successful for the rest of us. The actions of a few can give the whole industry a black eye when in fact the vast majority of us are hardworking, honorable people. Every shady get-rich-quick product and offline guy who charges unsuspecting business owners and subsequently delivers nothing makes the victims of those scams that much more gunshy about jumping in with both feet.

      You said it best.

The only thing I truly dislike about IM is the almost unreasonable
fast pace of business. Methods that work today go extinct in a
number of months. It's very difficult work.

On the flipside, the only reasonable way to counter any of that is
to build a list or create a membership site.

Everything else outside of those two elements that are virtually
very long-term and time proof is irrevelent.

That's why I focus all my energies on offline marketing. Easier to
learn, not as likely to be obsolete after learning it.

j2011 summed it up well. I am tired of fake earnings claims and more tired of people not getting wise to the facts that they are so obviously fake. The other thing that amazes me is how certain places disallow any talk of anything that is not strictly white hat, yet let these fake earnings claims exist. Here is a hint, when a "guru" dodges questions about income claims, or they respond to posts in broken English, yet somehow wrote this 30 page masterpiece that will make you rich, it's probably BS. When I put things out I tell people they can earn, and will earn if they do what the product tells them, but I won't ever make any outrageous claims. If I made 40k in 14 hours or even in 7 days, the last thing on my mind is...damn, better give back to the community and make a $7 WSO out of this so it can benefit others. Seriously, how many FIFA players are offering books on conditioning? How many rock stars are writing books on how to play the guitar? Very, very few, if any, so why would anyone who got rich quick from something do the same? I feel like a testament to this is seeing "I have bought 22 of your previous WSOs and they are so good I bought this one too" Really, you bought that many WSOs that surely made income claims, and your still looking for that magic button? What annoys me most? Naivety.......
